Definite mountain goat bias there...

I'm also quite enjoying Strava Playback: http://labs.strava.com/flyby/viewer/
Interesting way to compare yourself to others riding at the same time.
Found out I was following (and catching) a bloke for half my ride yesterday and hadn't even noticed!

I noticed this.

Shame, as I definitely have a performance advantage on the downhill segments hehe

Nice one V15Ben, that's another hour wasted, lol.

At first I didn't get it, but if you paste a segment within a ride, rather than the ride itself into the URL it's much better. I chose the big hill from tour of britain - pretty cool to see people from all directions converge on 1 point, before meandering away again.

Holy crap that is awesome.

I went out yesterday and another PH member did the same loop the other way round. We were trying to work out where we passed, and now I know!

haha! Probably. My round trip was 148 miles though, so I have an excuse.
Also, I'm fat and slow. =) That's never the excuse though.

Like ants!

Holy crap, that is the best thing I've ever seen! Why did I not know about this? I don't even care about the comparison bit, it's just really cool seeing what other cyclists were doing at the same time, also a really good way of seeing what other routes people are taking.

Thanks for that!

yes I enjoy the stats side of things on rainy days when I can't get out and ride!
I find it good to watch where people are riding close to my usual routes, then checking their routes on their Strava profile.
Found some good alternatives so far, which is always nice.

Plenty more time to be wasted with stats now, though I'm not sure any of the stats mean anything hehe

Thats the best thing about them ben - since they are so open to interpret them - you can swear blind you're beating the fat accountant from up the road. If he's faster, you went further. If he's faster on the same distance, you spent more time in the saddle. Either way, you win! Better celebrate with a rocky road at the next cafe stop =)

I think the key reason for finding new routes is to find new cafes with good cakes tbh. hehe

I love Strava, don't care at all about comparing myself with others or KOMs (although of course it's nice when you get one), I like that fact you can do some route planning and analyse your own performance. It's a way of doing something riding related when you can't.

When I was really young, before the internet but not quite before GPS, I had this thought when out on a walk about how cool it would be if you could see everywhere you had ever travelled on a map. Well, now you can with Heatmaps. Sometimes technology can provide possibly completely useless but really interesting things.

That is an awesome feature! Got your message Si but was out and about, now I've had a look at this I can see exactly where we passed - just past Roger Penny Way, near Linwood Coppice. Cracking feature, although that does mean more time spent looking at Strava laugh

I have been playing about with the csv option from VeloViewer, and your score can include downhill bits.

The way to work it out for yourself, is to sort by score, highest first, only including segments with a gradient of -0.2% or greater.

For some reason mine has gone up to 94.14 overnight.

It would appear the trick is to be quick on popular segments. I could either target specific segments I know, to improve the score, or find new ones to be quick on too.

I intend to find out where the segments that would help me most are near my commute to target daily, and try to go new places at the weekend. I'm targeting 96 by the end of Septemeber.

My 101th score is exactly 90.
