...I have a question!

Using the Iphone app, it often lists the max speed of a ride as say 47mph. I think "that's good, didn't think I was going quite that quick". I then scroll across to the Speed graph and the graph goes no go above 40 mph? Whats that about?

Ok, I think its the Iphone not being reliable at reading speed, but then for it to list 47mph max speed, I would still expect to see it in the speed graph, even if the data was "incorrect", if that makes sense?
I get similar when uploading from my Garmin (Edge 500) to Strava. The 'Max Speed' figure on the Garmin will be around 42.6mph (for example) yet when it transfers to Strava it'll show a figure of low 50's mph. No idea why, and much like you describe, there'll be no corresponding 'spike' in the graph when you look closer... confused I've no idea why, but presume it's got something to do with how Strava processes the raw data.

I've even seen some segments (but not on any of my rides so far) where the Average Speed for the segment exceeds the peek highest speed for the segment, which as I understand it, is mathematically impossible?
Yep spot on the same pretty much the same!

Strava has gone nuts for me this last couple of weeks. Clearing out my email in-box, I noticed that I've picked up 26 new "Followers" in the last month alone. I'm afraid that I can't possibly return the favour, or my 'dashboard' time line would be swamped and I'd lose sight of the couple of dozen fairly local riders I'm following, whose routes are useful inspiration for me to 'borrow'.

Question? Do people tend to get offended if they 'follow' a rider who doesn't then 'follow' them back? Is there an etiquette to this sort of thing? I know a few people who I followed early on when I joined have (apparently) given up either on cycling itself, or on uploading to Strava. I'd 'unfollow' them, but there doesn't seem any point, as their lack of activity is not what clutters up my dashboard.

None of this is important in any way. Just the random musings of a certified nutcase, really...

I basically follow my friends and people whose training or racing interests me and out of courtesy will follow people back but I certainly don't get offended if someone chooses not to have their timeline cluttered up with my commuting.... And the odd sportive!... Boo hiss to the sportive!

I'm quite happy with people posting their Strava traces for sportives, to be honest.

It means I can crib the route from them, create my own course to upload to the Edge 500, and go ride it by myself without any nannying, nodders, or entry fees. wink

No need to get up at silly o'clock on a Sunday morning then, either, as there are no 'broom wagons' to beat, nor any 'Gold Times' to aim for ruin the enjoyment of the ride. biggrin

finally my average speed is improving again!

Im back upto 28kmh average up from 22kmh a few weeks ago.

I know i could easily get the extra 2kmh by selling my first born to buy a canyon bike.. or by just having better wheels than the decathlon cheapies i'm currently running, but sod it... it feels good to force this crappy old bike upto decent speeds smile

I would do that too but its a lot of faff having to make my own finishers medal and t-shirt... plus I'd have to get the mrs to sort out some food stops on hte route, then drive up to a hill ready to take my photo which she then charges me £8 to download...

You're forgetting you'll have to put up direction arrows at all the junctions. Don't worry about taking them down afterwards, though. No-one else seems to...

You should also visit your house the day before to collect your registration pack. Your house will not be open on the day of the event.

At least you wouldn't be dropped from the fastest group when you stop to refill your bottle.

Maybe some sort of neutral bottle exchange would work smile

I've had a search around the net and on here and I don't fancy looking through all 118 pages of this thread to figure out this quick question.

If I delete my activities from my Garmin 200 would it delete them from my Strava account when I connect?
I'm thinking it shouldn't but I'm about to upload 500 miles worth of courses to my device then ride them next week, so thinking it would be worth freeing up as much space as possible before I head off. I don't want to lose all my data from he last 6 months.

I was rather pleased to get a PR this morning from Balham to Clapham Common, especially as I was on my cross bike with 35c tyres and panniers.

Looking on Strava, I was rather chuffed to see I'd averaged 20mph for the first time, was 532nd out of 5,192 people..... and 4th out of 5 people I'm following! irked

Would anyone slow care to volunteer to ride the segment so that I can follow them? hehe

ooo that's annoying.

For big mega rides, I'll share. But I'd lose friends very quickly if I shared every ride I made (especially commuting!). Plus, I'd become "the bike guy"...I really don't want to become that biggrin

Yeah they turned it off months ago for me,

Was handy as for every ride it would share on my wall, so my misses could see it posted and therefore I had got to work OK, normally I text but the signal is bad and I often forget!

I'm sure I will have ridden that at some point inthe past. You can follow me...

I have a Strava challange I'm just working out at the moment, you have to promise to hep me on hat though. Deal?
