ooo that's annoying.
For big mega rides, I'll share. But I'd lose friends very quickly if I shared every ride I made (especially commuting!). Plus, I'd become "the bike guy"...I really don't want to become that
Yup, I think you can turn it off again but I'd *already* turned it off For big mega rides, I'll share. But I'd lose friends very quickly if I shared every ride I made (especially commuting!). Plus, I'd become "the bike guy"...I really don't want to become that

I don't have it on for that reason, also it would enable my wife to see that i'd actually left work a bit early and gone for a extended ride home rather than comming straight back to help with the kids For big mega rides, I'll share. Ha!I have a Strava challange I'm just working out at the moment, you have to promise to hep me on hat though. Deal?
Who are you on Strava? You could be one of the five already!
To make it really annoying, whilst one mate is 22 seconds (iirc) on 3:46, the second and third guys are only 2 and 1 second ahead of me on a segment of over 4 minutes...
Wish I'd known. Rode part of that this week at 1am trying to get home but not that length.
That said, managed this at Clapham Junction: https://www.strava.com/activities/349858603/segmen...
Guess 1 out of 1434 ain't bad!

I was rather pleased to get a PR this morning from Balham to Clapham Common, especially as I was on my cross bike with 35c tyres and panniers.
Looking on Strava, I was rather chuffed to see I'd averaged 20mph for the first time, was 532nd out of 5,192 people..... and 4th out of 5 people I'm following!
Would anyone slow care to volunteer to ride the segment so that I can follow them?
I'll be commuting up that way myself soon, feel free to follow and get ahead of me all the way up to Waterloo! Looking on Strava, I was rather chuffed to see I'd averaged 20mph for the first time, was 532nd out of 5,192 people..... and 4th out of 5 people I'm following!

Given the +/- error on the timings, they might not be faster than you.Who are you on Strava? You could be one of the five already!

Any premium users with a Garmin 1000 used the live segments yet? I assume you need to have it Bluetooth linked to your phone?
The 1000 looks the dogs knob, I know someone who has one but I haven't seen it on action. It's a big old beast though, not one for the weight weenies!I have an 810 and without trying seem to have live strava segments enabled
It doesnt need a phone connection
There is a good write up on DC Rainmaker but basically when you approach one of your favourites it counts down and then gives you the map screen with time split ahead/down, PB for that segment and then follows you as you do it
I agree the 1000 looks a monster too.........

Already? I thought this was a future release that hadn't happened yet? Definitely Strava segments and not Garmin segments? It doesnt need a phone connection

Good luck, did that at 1am
And had smart recording on by the looks of it, but then so did the other KOM so I guess its much for much, if you turned it off I think it would cost you 3 or seconds looking at that. You didn't think to ride to Wimbldeon (where your train surely stops?) as its a lot closer..? Or does it not stop there...

Whats smart recording?
All trains had left by time I finished work. This was the last option to get me home
Ah I thought you meant you got to clapham and missed the train when there! All trains had left by time I finished work. This was the last option to get me home
Its a feature in your garmin, it essentially messes up the recording of data by making assumptions vs recording data points every second, on short segments where each 1s or so can make a big difference to an overall placing you often find many of the fastest people have done those times because they had that feature on which gifted them time.
For example, segment has you down as 29mph avg, but when you analyse the segment it was actually 27avg, I would turn it off purely as I can't see what good it does over taking many more data points.
No more Google maps in Strava then, OSM intstead.
The off road tracks are marked better but shame to lose Streetview.
