Strava clubs?
Most Strava users seem to belong to at least one, but we've all seen some who seem to take things to excess.
What's the largest number of Strava clubs you've seen on anyone's profile page?
This chap randomly began following me last night... https://www.strava.com/athletes/6858886 ...and it looks like he's joined well over 1,600 Strava clubs!!! Over 3,400 followers, and he's "following" over 2,000 fellow users.
And there was me thinking my 43 clubs was excessive, even after I had a clearout of clubs that I'd lost interest in...

Strava "dumbing down" it's monthly challenges? Opinions?
April 2015 - Gran Fondo 130km
April 2016 - Gran Fondo 115km
April 2017 - Gran Fondo 100km
April 2015 - Climbing Challenge 9,000 metres
April 2016 - Climbing Challenge 5,500 metres
April 2017 - Climbing Challenge 7,500 metres
Is it "dumbing down" or just "tweaking" the numbers? I know the climbing challenge went back up a bit, but generally the trend is toward lower numbers for these 'Milestone' challenges. I know they are not easy, but they used to be a whole lot tougher to complete, and felt like more of an achievement. I understand that challenges get less tough during winter, but traditionally the distances required to earn that "coveted Gran Fondo badge" grew steadily through spring to a summer peak before falling back again. This year it feels like they've flatlined at a standard 100km Gran Fondo. The climbing challenges too, are easier to achieve. Now I get the daft badge simply by doing my 'usual' riding. In the past I've been tempted out at the end of the month on routes specifically engineered to yield maximum climbing per mile travelled simply to complete the "task".
It's not of vital importance, and it's very much a 'first world problem', but I used to enjoy the difficulty of the challenge, yet now the achievement barely merits a second glance really. I've taken to setting my own goals now, but they're harder to share with a bunch of friends and acquaintances so that we all have a bit of a challenge...

More people achieve the badge and are eligible to buy the jersey?
I thought they'd stopped selling stuff... on June 22nd 2016 Strava Support Centre said:
In an effort to focus our entire team on our core goals Strava has made the decision to close down the online retail store...
https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/articles/22132......so no real incentive to 'capture' more customers for the shop by 'rewarding' them with the right to make a purchase?
ETA: I certainly can't see a link to a shop from my log in page. Not that I've ever been interested in their kit to be honest, hence why I never noticed the article I linked to before.

The most dull thing on Strava is the endless st challenges.
I quite like 'em.I've met several local riders through finding them on Club and Challenge leaderboards. I've become quite good friends with two of them. But yes, when the challenges are "easy" (for me, at least) and there are too many of them, then they can get a little annoying.
Strava (and PistonHeads) are my only exposure to "social media" though - perhaps I'd be less enamored of it if I was on Facebook, Twitter, etc, and wasting even more of my time on the internet...

...looks like we might be getting softened up for a push to make us all go 'Premium'? Or is that just my inner cynic making a break for freedom?
I did wonder where they get the funds to run the whole thing when parasites like me are using the whole thing for nothing.

I coincidentally binned Premium Strava last month
As an early adopter, judged by no-one else on it round here, I was happy to pay a small sum for the functionality, it just seemed like the right thing to do at the time.
Having recently looked at what Premium gets me I decided it wasnt worth it and with a gazillion other users these days they probably dont need my cash. Most of the discounts and perks are US based and the training plans and power stuff are irrelevant to me these days anyway.
Their routing is fantastic though, its really smart to use their own heat maps to put you on the best cycling routes and the Flyby is usually good for a laugh as well after club rides - these are the 2 things I would pay for but as theyre free its happy days
Cheers

I keep getting emails prompting me to try Premium for free for a month. Sunday was apparently my "last chance" to try it for free. In reality, last chance meant last chance until Monday, when we'll restart the offer.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-41186824

I don't see the premium offering as giving me any benefit, the free service is more than good enough for me.
