First KOM on sunday, realised there was a segment that goes past my front door, never ridden it before as my house is half way up the road. Felt good at the end of my ride so thought why not.

Doesn't really count though as its slightly downhill smile

Bloke walking his dog gave me a proper weird look as I cycled slowly back home after blasting past him 30 seconds previously.

IMO Veloviewer does more and better than premium. Strava should get that capability, plus multiple ride mapper then it'd be worth getting premium. Can't see the benefit of premium unless you have a power meter / live garmin personally.

Strava is a great app, I only use the free version on an old iphone 5

DId my club hillclimb at the weekend and my times from Strava were inline with the official calibrated timings and my friends Garmin unit.

I think they have stood still for the last few years, i'm surprised they haven't built on the social media aspect of the app, for example if you could start discussions on specific segments, or upload/share videos or interact with other riders more.

I'm not sure I'd want the above, i'm just suprised how the app hasn't moved forward since i've had it, although perhaps thats why it is still so popular because they drill down to what you need

How long for them to review complaints on KOMS? Some chancer has taken one of mine on an ebike. I reported it last week, but nothing yet.... What was worse is that I went there to congratulate him, only to see that.... mad

It's downhill for everybody else too. KOM earned.

Have you flagged their time? Usually if you do that it puts the onus back on them to confirm it was genuine and already removes their time until they have.

If I downgrade to free from premium, do I get to see any power data at all or is it completely masked?
I had a premium trial for a couple of months but I'm back on standard strava now. I still get power data for all my rides and segments, although to be honest I can't remember what I got on premium that might have been extra? Definitely don't get the power curve any more though, which as mentioned by okgo is very useful and I'd quite like to have back again. Currently trying to decide whether to spend my £5 per month on strava or training peaks...... Oh and I also have stravastix which seems to give a bit of extra data?

On this subject how do you get CR's reinstated that someone has flagged and are actually genuine?

If you go to the ride that was flagged you can click on the header bit and get it unflagged. If it gets re-flagged and you have premium then you can get a quick response from support who will look at it and decide.

I think the interface is a little clumsy but http://www.goldencheetah.org/ will show you all your power information if you want to dump Strava premium.

The feature ideally want is rivals - some easy way to see who is "winning" between 2-3 mates for all segments you've both /all done, with filters for year / gradient / segment length and whatnot.
It's totally doablee, because it's there on veloviewer. Sadly you all have to have veloviewer premium and the 2 lads I have the most strata competitive banter with are not on it.

Has anyone found that since using strava their motivations gone down, I thought it'd be great having that edge of competition with mates etc, but when theyre all faster than you, apart from on flats, it kinda sucks the fun out of it for me?!?!

I think apart from the first few months I've never cared where I stand on any segment against anyone apart from Richmond Park maybe. That whole side of it is a gimmicky in and captures people for a while, then they either use it for what it is, a good logging tool with mapping, and a social element, or stop using it.

Yeah, people in my area have setup segments that are in their street or whatever, just so they have a few KOM's... Hmm !

I like the segment time tracking, but mostly to see how I am progressing against myself. There are a lot of variables, so I can't be worrying about ponces with a bigger bike budget and lighter gear or a less complicated home set-up and time to train than I have, the ones who cheat on an electric bike, those who happened to be super fresh near the beginning of their ride, having a tailwind or an unwitting leadout man, luck with the lights. I have no KOMs and probably never will have but do get satisfaction from seeing how I am doing on certain segments over time.

The one thing I do look for comparisons with others on is where I am generally in the population. To begin with I was always in the bottom half. Now the PRs I set seem to be in roughly the top 10%. I can take a huge amount of satisfaction and motivation from that.

Yep I just like looking at how I'm progressing. Or not.

There's one segment I've done a few times that is a 1.9 mile climb from the river Medway to the top of the North downs, 170m elevation gain, that's a pretty good indicator of how I'm doing against myself. The compare tool is useful as it shows where I'm losing or gaining time as the little blobs move along the graph.

Yup!

I've got an insane downhill road KOM somewhere north of Goodwood. I've been back twice and can't get near it again though. Probably something to do with actually braking on the way down now. First time I did it I had no idea what was coming at the bottom of the hill, having never ridden or even driven the route before. Getting to the sharp left turn at something like 45 mph, only just making the turn, and being confronted by an upside-down LandRover Defender which was lying in a ditch having not made the turn successfully on that first run has somewhat clouded my ability to stay off the brakes on further attempts. Kind of an "ignorance is bliss" situation that first time I rode down there. Now, though, it just feels too scary to push hard down to the turn at the bottom.

We were talking about this on the Sunday club run

Our club isn't very good at staying together as a group on the road, or of making sure everyone sticks to the published route and we were thinking of ways of knowing where each other is 'live' when people go missing...

I don't have a computer of any type and I am really bothered about sticking with the route of finding the rest of the group if I get lost, but I can see an advantage in being able to know where everyone that set off together actually is from time to time

Is strava premium the right way to go about this?
