Is £40k just for the trip or does that include buying the bike and all the equipment like a tent & specialist winter gear? wink

Heard about this trip over the past few months,as i've been reading the pedal powered sub section more often.
Decided i would try to find the associated thread and spend a couple of hours reading it tonight.
Truly incredible and hugely aspirational philosophy on life.

Hope all is well. Good luck with the rest of tour! bow

Just trip spend, I.m guessing £12k for the kit.

I should think you'd get the best equipment money can buy and be able to afford the odd 5 star hotel for £52K!

I've never added it all up but I'm guessing £5-6k for the kit including £2k for the bike which I already had. The trip itself is pretty cheap once I left Western Europe with visas being my biggest expense and I expect flights will be once I've got large amounts of water to cross in one go.

Spot the Buddha....

And just in case the angle's not great, here's a massive clue....

For those interested in reading more about where I was today, here's a bit of background info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leshan_Giant_Buddha

It's taken me almost a year but I've now made it as far as Laos. Amazing place and so much easier to be a tourist in than China.

Are you going to go tubing?!? What is your planned route around Thailand / Cambodia / Vietnam?

Maybe but I've only been here a day so I still need to get a feel for the place. As for my route, I make it up as I go along so all I can say for now is it's south towards Singapore via whatever takes my fancy.

Wow, doesn't time fly. I've been following this thread from the beginning and it only feels like a few months.

Enjoy the rest as you have done so far.

For those who don't do facebook or twitter, today I finished one year on the road so feel free to have a guess below as to how many kilometres I've ridden. No prize unfortunately other than a virtual beer. beer

Good luck.

Happy Anniversary. Have been reading this from day 1 and really love reading. It's turning into a little bit of escapism for me! The more I read the more I feel part of it. I informed my wife this evening that we would be cycling around the world when we retire. Apparently she won't be coming. Result!
