What a complete fking disaster

Was looking forward to the ride in, gears seemed a bit odd but fine

3 miles in hit the climb out the village, out the saddle 10% climb and crash rear mech jammed into wheel, chain jammed I being clipped in went down like a sack of spuds. Thankfully I threw myself into the verge, I then fell down the ditch still clipped into the bike!! Bike was at top top ditch , I was hanging down it not being able to move on the edge of a busy B road! Managed to get my feet out then checked the bike over. Rear mech is bent , rear wheel is buckled, as the frame is steel the mech hanger is part of the frame is is very bent.

I then had a 3 mile walk home to get the car!! Bit pissed off with myself as I had enough warning signs the gears were a bit fked, going to cost me a fair bit to put right as well, was worried the frame could be written off and it is only 6 months old, but the LBS say it should be fine

Kind of lucky that I didnt fall into the road, as I could have easily been brown bread as cars pass very closely there, guess it reminds me how important giving cyclists a bit of space is!

Misses even gave me sympathy as she has never seen so many stinging nettles on someone before, she was more worried about that than anything else!!
Almost certainly looks worse than it is. The rear mech hanger being bent is probably the root cause. New (old) mech off Ebay, bend the frame back with a long lever, 10 mins with a spoke key and you'll be back in action for less than £30.

Cheers for the reassurance, dropped it off at my LBS, as have no time this week, plus I am far too heavy handed for any frame bending!!

Looked a right state, I couldn't even push it home without taking off the gear cable as the wheel was jammed!

fell victim to a selfish little indian woman today frown

Heading down a pretty quick hill down a 30mph dual lane road, i hit a large pothole and lost my drinks bottle.

I pulled up pretty sharpish and turned to see where it was.. it was stationary on the kerb side of the central white line in the lane nobody drives in due to the endless line parked cars.

by the time i put my bike down and started walking to it ( lets call it 5secs from bottle drop.. ) I see this vile woman swerve deliberately to the left out of her lane and over the bottle completely destroying it in a fountain of tortured water and plastic.

I swear I saw her smirk when she did it. utterly pathetic.

Of you're sure it was intentional...

There has never been a better excuse for a rock from the roadside into her rear screen. "These farmers are always flicking stones with their tractors"

I see this sort of thing every day. There is rarely drinks bottles involved. I'd put it down to usual errant behaviour.

Lovely ride in today. It's my first day in full summer gear - shorts, lightweight t-shirt and fingerless gloves. Plus my new Kask Mojito helmet arrived last night. I felt like I was flying this morning, Strava confirms I definitely wasn't.

Have you considered raising your saddle by about 4cm?

I did, although had already left and couldn't be arsed to turn around and go back for the tool. I'm going to stop by the bike shop at the end of the road on the way back and ask very nicely to borrow theirs I think.

I love seeing animals when out exercising, it always lifts my spirits.

One of the runs I do goes through Regent's Park and if I'm lucky I'll see tigers biggrin
Tigers? All I get are lousy cows and sheep...
