Mixed commute today.....

Due to both the rain and the tube being back on, the roads seemed quieter. Certainly not many cycles on my route. I wasn't too bothered by the rain (hey - I come from the West of Scotland!) and was well on track for a PB when the P-fairy struck. Bastid! A tiny sliver of quartz-type grit had gone through the tyre.....

Hence, I spent a wet, grimey and oily 20 mins on Chiswick High Rd fumbling about changing the tube. Then arrive at work looking like I've been down a coal mine, only to meet the Ops Director and Country President coming in from the car park.

However, smart old me, I paused my Garmin, so *technically* it's still a PB.....

There's no way my gear will dry for the ride home - can't wait to put cold, wet shorts and socks back on frown

Left at 7.15 to the odd drop of rain. Perfect; all the tube strike wobblers have vanished AND all the fair weather cyclists too.

Great run in, only got a little wet towards the end.. Heavy rain stared as soon as I was safely in the building.

Happy days.

Not a fake. Driver was fined for due care & the 12 year old cyclist got away with bruises. Not sure it's that funny tbh???
I take it back, it looked like it was staged with no injuries occurring hence the laugh - just seen it on road.cc and it's a real incident from 2012. Beggars belief!

Topped up my cycling Karma this morning - 500m after leaving the house there's a guy with a road bike running along the pavement in the opposite direction. A quick check from me and it transpires he's had a puncture and can't get enough pressure in the tyre from his crappy pump. I'm on my MTB due to the weather which also has a crappy pump, so offer to walk back to my house and let him use my track pump. All sorted and he's on his way to work.

Knowing my luck I'll gets SMIDSY'd on the way home.

Well that was bloody horrible

My feet were so wet that my socks left wet footprints all up the office carpet when I went to get changed biggrin

Need to find a way to dry out my SPD shoes before home time. . . .
You have to do two things:

1) Stuff them full of newspaper or paper towels. Then change it regularly through the day.
2) Find somewhere warm. An airing cupboard is ideal - but hard to find at work. Failing that PCs and monitors get pretty warm. Don't let them drip water onto either as management take a pretty dim view.

Nah, I reckon you're perfectly primed for a KOM on the MTB biggrin

Good shout on IT equipment- wedged them up behind the cooling fan on my pc tower and it made short work of the wetness without drawing attention as its under my desk :-)

Sodding balls. P-fairy visited on the way home too. Good thing I had another tube with me. This time it might be self-inflicted, I may not have blown It up enough after the morning.

Taking the bloody car tomorrow.

What? You don't have dedicated hot air clothes/shoe drying cabinets at your workplace? What kind of savages do you work for?

Braver man than I, my shoes stink! Being in an open plan office I doubt what remains of my co-workers would like me that much!

Looks like I'm off the bike for a while, got to spend next week lugging all my junk back on the train before starting a new job shortly afterwards.

Even then until I get my foot in the door and consider whether its practical to cycle to the new job (got to be at my desk, showered and ready at 6:30am, leave at gone 9pm most evenings). We'll see how it goes once I'm settled in but adding nearly an hour (15 miles) onto each end for a cycle may be a step too far, initially anyway.

Decided that the risk of shoe smell was worth it against the horridness of putting cold, sodden shoes back on. I spent the day away from my desk making models out in the workshop anyway biggrin

Missing my commute, popped to Phuket for a weeks break, then next week starts with an enforced taxi ride and then onto the airport to Papua New Guinea for 3 days.

I'll only get one ride in to work next week Friday. At least I've got Sunday morning for a some miles..... For the last 3-4wks it pours with rain just before, or during my ride home. Which when on the trail means a huge coating in clay mud and hose down every night.

At least it's 25+ degrees overnight to dry everything out for the next day though smile

Got one of my bikes back from the shop after the mech jammed into the rear wheel and caused me to crash on monday. Was only £68 which I was happy with, as it included: New Tiagra mech, rear wheel true , bike service and realigning the steel frame, it looked a complete state on Monday, glad it fixed ok

Took it slow and steady this morning , as I have done 100 this week and have 100 planned for tomorrow , I quite enjoyed going slow down the quiet lanes did the 10 miles in 36 minutes which was nice as well.

Bit nippy today wasnt it?!!!! Still was nice and dry

Postscipt; got absolutely drenched on return leg and had leaden legs all the way back.

Serves me right for being smug.

Rode in on the new mountain bike today, just for a laugh, it was great fun - nice having all the gears to go up hill and I did as much off roading as physically possible, cutting across the parks and hopping over verges, it was still bloody quick going down hill too. I think I might do it every Friday now!

Really missing my daily cycle to work! Im 4 weeks post knee ligament surgery and while the flexibility is coming back I know its still a long way to go before I can realistically get back on the bike.
