Quite. I think I need to stop moaning about wet feet and soggy shorts after seeing that picture.....

Just a short ride in for me, although it was quite windy, looking forward to taking the longer way home via some single track.

Well, saw the physio today and my arm is much better. Re started karate this week to which I think has helped. Am looking to potentionally restart riding this Feb to allow more healing time. I've got to say that car commuting sucks but it's been a very nice place to be in this winter monsoon!

I'll be restarting on the Hardtail, and saving the racer for the summer. Looking forward to re-losing some flab!

Will be good to see you back!

My ride home was great. With the tailwind I hardly needed to pedal. Even got some 'real' cups on my CX bike!

Build date: 24th Jan.

Can finally start doing the 15 mile commute again and not share the train with the unwashed masses.

Anyone do 15 miles each way every day? I usually take the bike in on the train then cycle home. Would be nice to avoid the £1200 a year for a train ticket though if possible. Is it too knackering? The route is hilly...

Ashamed to say I bailed at at about the 13 mile mark on the way home. The wind was literally bringing me to a halt at times and I was having to dodge more and more branches, of both 'on the road' and 'flying through the air' varieties.

Plus, the pub was just too tempting!

Phoned in Mrs Loudlashadjuster who joined me for a drink then stuck the bike on the roof for the last couple of miles.getmecoat

I don't normally post but feeling pretty good did 15 miles each way to work today (Nottingham to derby) headwind this morning was ridiculous almost stopped at some points.

40mph + SW winds on the way home pretty sketchy cycling down the canal/rivers so close to the water!

Didnt manage to clip out in time at one point ive got a nice mark from the end of the handlebar into the moob pretty painful still hehe All good exercise though on my hardtail bike

I don't do it very often in winter. It helps its so flat on canal/river paths theres only about 40m change in elevation according to map my ride.

Yeah, my frequency drops in winter too. In the summer it's about 50/50 towpath and road, in the winter all road as the towpath is too risky. All on a MTB with an average of 190m elevation gain each way smile

My commute average elevation (according to Strava!) is 1240m each way, so not inconsiderate.

If there were no cars, I would do it, no doubt.

Cheers Steve. Looks like you're enjoying the CX bike this winter - is it a comparable pace to a road bike?

With knobbly tyres on, no. On slicks, almost but the extra weight means long climbs are slower.

Can't believe it's taken me 12 months to fit a proper 29er rear mudguard. Massive difference. That plus the neoprene overshoes I used for the first time meant I was cycling through loads of standing water on the way home for fun.

Result.

Charge in the infinite wisdom decided to fit the plug with mudguard mounts on the fork but leave the width of the proverbial gnats cock between the tyre and the bottom of the head tube thus making sure that NO fkING MUDGUARD ON PLANET EARTH FITS THIS fkING BIKE...

Quick trip to Tesco to see what I could bodge together and I parted with the princely sum of £2.63 bought some kids mudguards designed for 20" bikes, bodged the mountings with somethings I had in the garage and hey presto... I now have mudguards. They may not last long but for £2.63 I can afford a new set each week in the winter! I swapped the nasty cheap nuts for nice nyloc ones too so it should stay together. It was too dark for pics but I'll post some tomorrow.

I got some race blades for my single speed - they only got up to the fork (and about an 1" back from the brakes on the rear). Bit more than £2.63, though!

My new-ish rear handbuild has gone badly out of true, so my bike is riding like an absolute pig at the moment. I'm 2-3mph down everywhere and it feels like I'm riding into a headwind... then last night I actually was riding into a headwind!

I think I'm going to use this as an excuse to get the LBS to give my bike a good spruce up over the weekend.... hmm shiny new bits.

Grim last night, lots and lots of rain, the gravel railway path was a river of mud and gravel

Then heavy rain, heavy wind and mud all over the back roads

Then I get home, rain stops and wind dies down and the misses wonders why I am so filthy

I don't mind getting so wet and muddy , but its killing the bike as I don't have time to wipe/lube every night in pitch black. I cant run full mudguards, due to a short minor off road section I could see them catching on

Got really really cold on the way home today. Actually had to stop towards the end and put my skull cap thing on. Looks like three layers are about to become four.
