Into week 8 of renewed commuting. Had a check up at work last week and my resting heart rate and blood pressure are nicely down. This morning my legs felt the strongest they've been in a long time.

Now need to keep it up, add proper running back into the mix and shift 10lbs.

Onwards and upwards.
good effort. Keep it up!
Thanks. I need to. Heart appears good but muscle density too low/fat too high. It gets worse with age.

Anyway, I usually hit a tipping point after 8/10 weeks when strength and stamina increase to the point where I can sustain a higher workload for longer. Then muscle starts building faster and fat starts to drop away more quickly.

Cycling is a good base as is swimming. Just need to find the time to add in 3 x decent runs a week (4-5 miles) and in another 8 weeks I'll have lost another 6-8 lbs. So that will mean I'll be 10-12 down on Jan 1st. Hopefully I can then keep it going for another 8 weeks and have lost over a stone by the summer. Target is to lose 20 lbs all in.

I'm sat at the front of the traffic queue at the lights, cars behind me etc etc. The cycle path runs across the road ahead, at this time of dya, its mostly from right to left, its also controlled by lights. My lights turn green, I make to ride off, traffic behind starts to move too but dhead cyclist appears from my right ignoring the lights and rides in front of me causing me to stop. "My lights are green" I say, "whatever" he replies, cue irate motorists behind me which dhead cyclist doesnt have to contend with as he continues on his merry way, we really dont help ourselves sometimes....

I'm still poorly, I've been sat doing maintenance on my bike when I'd rather be riding it frown

Although I have taken the time to fit summer tyres, new tubes, strip and clean the cassette/jockey wheels, checked indexing, lubed chain and cleaned up the discs.

Hopefully be back on tomorrow or Saturday, looks like we have a nice weekend coming up cool

Happy ride in. Improved fitness = more effort = more endorphins = more smiling.

I've decided to start next week. It's now light enough in the morning and hopefully the mild turn in weather will continue

Nice quick sunny ride in this morning, went to get changed and discovered I must have taken my trousers home n forgot them, doh!

Luckily it's only 5 miles so jumped in the work runabout to get them.

Nice extended ride home, all in daylight for the first time this year.

Front Chinese Cree light packed in last night... it must of decided it is spring and no longer required!

Looks like I may get away without it though so will save buying a new one until the Autumn... roll on the summer!

Nice commute in this morning, dry mild conditions... although I couldn't be bothered pushing on for a lap of Arthur's seat (wish I had now).

Didn't spot a row of cobbles turning into the Swan & Bottle car park on the way into Uxbridge.

Result:

Ouch.

Something tore the front tyre sidewall and knackered the tube aswell.

Bugger.

Mild weather! Albeit with a mild headwind.

Daylight!

3 (x50km) commuting days this week, plus a rocky mtb night ride.

Roll on summer!

Another fast run on the way home last night.

So now of course I am catching up more on the dawdlers much more frequently and with a higher speed differential which introduces more problems.

Nearly got taken out twice by other cyclists doing sudden and suicidal lurches to the right with no check and no indication just as I was committed to passing them. To add to my joy one of them had just come sailing out of a junction in front of me seconds earlier too (!)

Had a bit of a grumble but there's no point really, is there? Yesterday I got blank incomprehension from one and a "F*ck off" from the other. In the past I actually had one of these divots telling me I "should have slowed down" to let him batter past a give way sign and straight into my path.

None of this is hard, is it?

  • sigh*

Not in work today so no commute.

Used my day off productively and completed my first century (103 miles)smile - from a previous best of about 63 miles I am pretty happy with that.

Was filtering through some traffic and up ahead was a bus stopped at the bus stop. I was about 4-5 cars behind the bus. Was rather suprised that the bus was waving me forward to overtake him.

First time this year. Loved it. Faster than the car.
