coming past Salford Crescent, walking my bike so I could cross the road, I got a "finger" from a car ... something like nn55 LOW. Why did I get a finger? Because he was driving along the bus lane. What did I do? I have no idea!

The pins were a little stiff this morning but not too bad - did a reasonable speed on my way in 46 minutes for just over 14 miles.

After a winter of just ploughing on through miserable weather (only 250 or so miles a month - peanuts to some I know), I am starting to see the benefits I think. Distance is starting to jump up as weather gets better.

Interesting one this morning. To set the scene, there's a section of my work ride which is a busy urban 60k limit plus bus lane to the brow of a hill. Coming down the other side from the lights (from the crossing on the other side) one waits for the green man and cross into the bus lane and fly past everything. I'll post a streetview for perspective tomorrow.

So I start to fly down in lane 2, see a decent gap between 2 stationary-ish cars and decide that's my window across to the bus lane. Bit of a stunt, but not bad. Back end gives way and I'm straight into the back of some poor bloke in a Land Cruiser.

I was convinced I'd been a dhead and misjudged things, then this evening I found this:

I had the guy pull over to apologise and offer to rectify the small dent but 'don't worry about it mate, anyway I've got to be so where'

Bloody nice of him to not have made my morning worse.

front wheel washed out on a round about this morning as it went over some iron works that were obviously slightly wet. i was possibly only doing about 5 - 7 mph but still hit the deck 'with some enthusiasm'

luckily, because i didn't make any eye contact with anyone as i got up and scurried off to a discreet side road to assess the situation, no one saw it......

Sorry to hear that Rob. As you say, could have been worse, you could have had a packed bus stop all with front row seats paperbag

I decided to go the longer, all-Tarmac, way and take the road bike (instead of my worn-out Land Cruiser touring tyred & panniers cyclocross bike) this morning.

Despite it only being 3 DegC, Even compared with the cross bike on 23mm slicks in the warmth of July, I was quicker on the climbs and, despite the extra distance did my quickest ride into work this year.

Good stuff.

Was not at the races today. A proper dawdle today.

Bike developed a mystery puncture on the train, so didn't get the ride up the canal into Brum today - which is the nicest bit. Feeling somewhat cheated....

Fell off this morning. I have not fallen off a bike since I was about 16 years old. It hurts. No real damage to the bike I suppose.

Bad luck.

I've not fallen off since, er, mountain biking last week.

Blimey, all these people falling off, perhaps it's just as well I dawdle along and have only come off once in 2.5k of commuting. (although it was in front of a bus load of people and two cars stopped to check on me) paperbag

No big lights needed in the morning or at night now, just flashers, brilliant smile

Beautiful ride in this morning, I even rode into work and back yesterday on my day off to stretch my legs and check on the troops cool

It happens unfortunately - if you ride bikes, you come off bikes from time to time. Hopefully only a bruised ego?

Quite a nasty bit of 'road rash' on my arse but will still be riding home. Will need to get some new bar tape at some point but all in all not too bad. Commuted a lot last year although only in fair weather, lesson is be more careful on slippy / wet roads.

Puncture on the way home last night, not equipped to deal with it so Mrs H mounted a Thunderbirds style rescue in her Fiesta. Smashing girl she is.

Rode in this morning, legs a bit still, but what a glorious way to come to work, first time ever I've done 2 days in a row.

Second ride into work this year 21.5 km to the office, and then with a reasonable detour on the way home, another 31km, giving a total of 51.5km for the day.

The morning ride in was 45 minutes, with the ride home another 1hr 10 minutes. It's amazing how good it feels to commute on the bike, rather than just jumping in the car - in the office 30 minutes earlier than normal too

I went well On the way home. I would have put in a few more pr's, had there not been standing traffic in a number of places.

Nice and light too. No need for lights at 6pm. Much appreciated after riding in the dark both ways for quite a while.

I didn't stop riding and kept going through the winter, snow and ice permitting of course.

Had a good ride this morning, almost perfect weather conditions.

Likewise, there were a few sub-zero days, but nothing too bad. I don't do it everyday. 50km + , 5 times a week, just commuting, would be a bit much.

I commute 4 days a week weather permitting. Only 13 miles a day though.

Same here pretty much, rode at least 4 days a week around 12 miles per day, didn't stop in the cold weather.

Best winter investments, a balaclava and leg warmers thumbup

Also had a full body scan and I've put on 4kg's of muscle onto my legs since I started cycling last year cool
