Good effort.
Do you work on top of a mountain?
No, its just a nice clear drive on mostly rural roa.....oops I've said too much. Do you work on top of a mountain?
It is (to all intents and purposes) pan flat as a route (only 350 ft of climbing over the whole distance) - and I got lucky with a fairly clear run through the built up parts. It would be tough to replicate that run in the short term probably.
I was hoping to ride in today but my daughter woke up with a poorly tummy. She went to school but as this is a recurrent issue, I agreed to get a doctors appointment and to collect her later in the day so out went my cycling.
To add insult to injury, I couldn't get an appointment today (wish we had the equivalent of Fast Track GPs, pay £15 to guarantee an appointment - a good two tier NHS to help us PHers ), having to book one tomorrow morning meaning I can't ride to work tomorrow either
Still, kids come first....

I managed another commute again today... 43km in 1hr 34 minutes and that was including having to stop to tighten my saddle which decided that today was the day it wanted to become loose - probably my fault for making a few tweaks over the weekend while giving it a clean and changing tyres

I'm hoping to achieve something similar when it warms up. I can average 20mph+ on various Strava segments, although there is one part that with a mile of crawling traffic that reduces my average significantly. currently about 18-19mph if try.
ps. I once averaged 21.odd mph from Salford to beyond Preston on my own on my old skip-rescued road bike. I was very pleased with my improvement in fitness. It was only when I turned around that I realised that an Easterly wind had started and picked up strongly ...I had to pedal hard to get home.

Lovely morning to cycle in today... Strava full of PR's on the climbs too so there is definitely some feel good factor propelling my legs in this nice weather!
Seeing a gradual increase in the number of shiny bikes around too... must be 'cycle to work' schemes kicking in and everyone pulling out their shiny new bikes!

It's good when things all come together for a ride like that.

You sound pretty similar to me in many respects then. With 'average' lights and traffic I am 18-19 mph. I'm hoping to achieve something similar when it warms up. This morning felt a chore for some reason. Just couldn't be bothered. Got on and got out regardless, but hopefully the mood will pass as continuing to force the issue just builds up resentment and when you do put the bike away it stays away for longer.
Soooooooooooooo my first ride this year will be tomorrow, despite denying it last year to anyone who would listen, I am most definitely a fair weather cyclist.
I'm excited and nervous, I plan on going slowly but that never works out. Just hope nothing brakes as I had it serviced then put away (uncovered in my frosty garage) in December.............
Wish me luck !

On my way into work this morning I met the dog that bit me last year and its owner. The owner didn't seem too fussed at all that their dog had bitten a cyclist and I don't get the impression that they are going to keep it under better control in the future
Bit crap, as a dog owner of two mad dogs I keep them well away from bikes , even though they don't seem too bothered, shame there a few knobs out thereLighter evenings have meant I can extend the commute home from 5 to 14 miles and get home just as it gets dark.
18 plus miles a day 4 or 5 days a week should surely help the waistline I hope!
Nearly time for the road bike to come out of hibernation.
After a winter in a hybrid can't wait to see how quick the road bike will feel!

Cold enough for full-finger windproof gloves and long-sleeve jersey on the way in (too cold for thinner, short-sleeve jersey and arm warmers), too bloody warm on the way back!
But, enough of my moaning. Riding home this afternoon was just bloody perfect. Sun, slue skies, little wind, bit of warmth and light until 1830. Extra hour tacked onto the ride home tonight, just to make the most of it
