Took the single speed bike to uni this morning and it was a real slog, legs felt heavy and were aching when I got in. Coming home it was again a bit of a grind and just a mile into it my knees were killing me. Then I realised that my legs looked a bit too bent at the bottom of each stroke... The bloody seat post had slipped, two minutes later and everything feels great again, it had actually slipped about 50mm judging by the marks on the post. No wonder my knees were aching.

On a day like today, as the clock sweeps towards 5pm, does anyone else actually get a bit excited at the thought of riding home?
Yes.

The ride home was a brisk one - on road and off road (on dry, dusty trails!)

It was a nice commute into London today, a bit chilly this morning but lovely on the way home.

I think I'm going to have to change my route for the rest of the week as the current route each way in a virtually straight line and a pain with all of the traffic lights. I think I'll give it a go riding via Richmond Park for a change of scenery for the next couple of days and see how it goes.

Well, back to cycling in again after a long absence. I had a very nasty off on tram tracks in Droylsden (East Manchester) in November which I mentioned on here a few times. 4 months of physio and an MRI scan and I'm a lot better, but the damage is reasonably serious - for those of a medical bias, I have a reduced muscle bulk of the left supraspinatus and infraspinatus, plus a full thickness tear of the supraspinatus tendon with mild retraction and atrophy. With a type III acromion and small effusion in the subacromial bursa. This basically means a torn tendon securing one of the rotator cuff muscles.
However, this has been getting better, and I have been commuting again on the bike.
I am enjoying it again, but am a lot more cautious, plus a lot more aware of the reduced strength on the left arm. I think it is helping the rehabilitation though, especially on the road bike due to body position.
During the winter months, my LBS held a demo day for Trek bikes on the local mountain bike course, and I had a go on a Fuel EX 9 650b as shown in the photo below. Never ridden a full sus before, and I loved it. So now looking to expand the fleet again later this year with a full sus bike! All I can say is I've missed cycling, and returning now is very nice when the sun comes out to play!

Bonked ten minutes into an eighteen mile commute last night, had to idle the whole way home.

On the plus side, fuelled by porridge and raisins I had a belter of a ride across the fens at sunrise this morning cloud9

Glad to see you're back (although I knew from your Strave reports anyway!)

I saw 5 people on bikes going my way this morning! 5! Is it getting warmer or something?

edited as I had used "your"!

Pottered back with a colleague last night and consequently felt pretty fresh when we went our separate ways in Barnes. Smashed myself to bits for the remainder of the ride home and got a p36/8400 which I was chuffed with! (That's about as close as I ever get to a KOM in London).

A sunny (and foggy in a dip) 18 miler this morning, trying to maintain a steady, decent lick through cadence rather than big gears.

Fantastic it was.

wtf is a p36/8400? Sounds like something if found in your garden, might need to be defused!

London traffic was sh*te today, and I was 10 mins late heading off meaning I was hitting town at about 7 am. same time as the panier brigade and leapfrog mob (w*nkers whom you overtake only for them to breeze past you whilst waiting at the lights)....

It seemed like every man and his dog was commuting to work this morning in West London, it was the busiest I've seen it in a long while.
Tonight's commute it seemed that every crap driver in London was out and about, especially the bus drivers!

On a brighter note, it looks like good weather again for tomorrow's ride.

Ah! Well I hope it was only a zone 2 tempo effort ;-) (seeing as this is PH).

I'm more worried about my overtake nonchalant cum poker face than KOMs these days (or maybe I'm the only whom plays that game).

I repeated this on the way home (singlespeeding in a gear that was fairly spinny at cruising speed) and was quite surprised at the speed I was able to maintain. I'm going to work on this.

I used to ride singlespeed mtb and had got out of the habit.

Suffered the opposite of the more usual sort of wardrobe malfunction. Rather than getting to work and realising I'd forgotten my pants (which I think all of us have suffered at one point) I got home and realised that a) I have a client presentation tomorrow, b) it's not in South Bank, and c) my smart shoes and trousers *are* in South Bank.

Disappointing.

Thought it was hard work last night, couldn't get a rhythm and was struggling

Couldn't work out why, was adjusting the saddle and everything

Got home and realised my front tyre was fully flat! First puncture in 4000 miles! The tyre is so thick that you couldn't even tell by looking at it, it worked like a Beemer run flat. whilst slow still useable. I even hit 42mph on it down to my house, when it had 10psi in it!!

I've been cycling in on my road bike this following two spokes (the 3rd and 4th within 1,000km!) breaking on my Cannondale CX bike. While I'd rather take ,y old route with it's off-road section this isn't so bad given it has been light and dry. Sadly the bike now has to go back to Cannondale so I'll be on the roadie for another two weeks or so. It's sounding like a bag of bolts too, which isn't good!
Broke a spoke on my cannondale caad8 bike the other day (rear wheel), local bike shop sorted it out and trued the wheel for £7! Must have happened shortly before hoping off the bike on the way in. Beautiful sunny wind free night, pop outside thinking how great a cycle I am about to have, get into the basement to get my bike... Back wheel was like a banana, I actually thought it had been vandalised!!!

I didn't even know there was a roadie sign language...
Either did I!

I always fly past people on the straights or downhill bits (I'm a fat bloke) and get overtaken on the climbs by granddads and school kids, most people don't say anything, there is one older guy who will say hello and I saw him again when I decided to go home along the (bumpy totally not for road bikes) canal and got another hello again.

Never seen anyone signal except for car drivers laugh
