I've been 'riding to work' all this week, loved being out in the open and taking in the fresh air. Makes a change from a session on the rowing machine/weights. The Kennet & Avon canal is nice and close so I've had rides along that.

Doffed my helmet to these guys - you don't want to wobble & fall off of these! Nice relaxing way to travel, all the same.

The bike will be getting a good rinse tonight, covered it dust.

Those stand up paddle boards are a great workout, although I'm not too sure about using them on a canal, as you say, I really wouldn't want to fall in.

At 8:00 I realised I had a meeting at 8:30, so ended up setting a PB, although annoyingly 3s above my target time.

Breakfast: Alpen with almond milk.
Items of clothing forgotten: Socks.
Nothing like being late to make you push a bit harder.

Although nothing beats a bit of competition on the road.

Also socks is better than pants biggrin

The annoying thing was that the meeting was pushed back to 9:00 anyway.

Was going for 5 days commuting in but only managed 4! Good feeling though, can feel myself getting faster each time and am now commuting on the Hardtail for a better workout. Highlight of the week was a Strava personal record on the MTB that beat the previous record set on a road bike!
Witnessed a left hook this week, the guy stopped in time and gave the dozy git in the old white battered people carrier a mouthful, then 2 days later the same thing almost happened to me. Cheetham Hill if anyone knows it. The same area, similar vehicle, but they indicated 20 yards before the turn, so I jammed on the brakes and avoided the crash. Didn't bother arguing with them, i generally find that sort of thing pointless. Lesson learned is always ride these areas on the outside of the traffic jam, in the centre of the road!

Yes. One of those areas that always appears to have a terrible standard of driving. That crossroads/5-way junction in the middle is horrendous.

Cheetham Hill Rd is utterly mental and in rush hour its complete carnage. People abandoning cars in the middle of a live lane to go shopping was so common I think it was just accepted. Used to hate driving it so much that I would go out of my way to go around it. Would need to grow eyes in the back of my head before I'd even consider cycling down it.

Longsight on the A6 is pretty similar. The cyclists on Oxford Rd at most hours of the day must be kamikaze too. I'm glad I live in the suburbs and commute away from town.

The funny thing is I choose Cheetham Hill over Bury New Road because it feels like less people try and kill you on Cheetham Hill!

Bit chilly this morning - fingers complained a bit!

Saw a recumbent coming in from Salford, looks like fun but a bit high off the ground?

We've had ground frost first thing for the last two days and it was about 3 deg this morning. I didn't ride in today but yesterday I was glad I wrapped up a bit because even 2 hours into a longish ride the wind chill on descents was unpleasant.

Day 1 on the Brompton. Very enjoyable rides, surprised at just how well it whips along.

Highlighted some kit deficiencies and need to sort out some acessories. Also cold knees and cold hands.

It must be the brain playing tricks but I seemed to notice a lot more of them about today as well..

Decided to take the good bike in today, flew in managing Orpington - Moorgate in 50 minutes

However, way home I got a gas as deptford, at a good pace and the chain came off...cock, back on....10 spins later and it was off again, repeat a few more times = GF dispatched to get me in the car, no idea what it causing it though...stretched chain/worn sprocket?

Porridge and raisins.

Sunny but by god it was cold. Couldn't feel my feet by the end...

My bad knee (s) have gone fairly quiet, so I'm back on the bike again cool

Serously looking at going from my 29er to a 27.5, anybody else done the same on a commuting route? I can't believe it will make a huge difference to my journey time, but I fancy a bike that's a little easier to do silly jumps/wheelies/drop offs etc, but a bike that I can commute on as well.

Don't know what was worse this morning the rush hour traffic or the massive headwind with the almost constant stream of massive hailstones. At one point I was having the push hard to go downhill! At least my face was lovely and exfoliated by the time I got in laugh

Finally got my act together and started riding to work regularly for the first time since starting work at PistonHeads.

Really enjoying it and getting into it, no doubt aided by the weather. Saying that, it's a fairly long ride and I start work early so it's been pretty chilly for the first 10 miles this week... My hands and feet were still burning when I was in a meeting at about 9:30 this morning!

Did feel and epic amount of smugness for most of the day though!

I commute on a 9 yr old 26" Hardtail, and it's brilliant on the commute for just that - very nimble and great at manoeuvring through traffic. If the commute was a long slog though a 29er would be better.
Have ridden both 27.5 and 29 as well, didn't like the 29, was like riding an oil tanker! The 27.5 was best all round overall

Broke a cleat last night 2 miles in to my 12 mile commute home. Made the other 10 miles interesting.
