Great ride from home this evening! First time ever under 1 hour!

Under 1 hour in the proper Hollywood style! Noice.

First time on the bike this week in *ahem* 5 weeks. Work and wife have been put first for the past month.

Fortunately now in a position where I do not have to choose again...and my god. The drop off in fitness is staggering.

Struggling to get anywhere at the moment. Remembering how I was going 5 weeks ago now, and the wheezing mess I am at the moment is a horrible feeling.

Lots of work to do.
I knew with around 15 mins to go I was in with a good chance so tried pushing and just got it. There were kids playing in the street near the end and I almost ran the buggers over lol.

For health reasons I was off the bike for around 6+ months.... Getting back on was difficult to say the least! It's surprising to see how fast you lose it.... But it does come back faster.

PBs both ways on my commute today. Averaged 17.4mph going in and 16mph coming home. Nice to get home from work having done nearly 49 miles and 3700ft climbing and still have an evening to chill.

1x small white chocolate cereal bar before leaving the house, 4x yoghurt coated crispy cereal and strawberry bars about an hour after I got to work, then a banana about an hour after that. I'm quite bad for just eating constantly through the day...

had a blistering ride this evening with a workmate who also rode in, he lives local to work, so we rode together to my halfway point, and then he looped back home.

you really push alot harder when you have someone with you waiting to tea bag you up the next steep hill lol

Big Thanks to the bloke in the Audi who overtook 2 oncoming cyclists and headed straight towards me, just after I had crested a humpback bridge.
I slowed, moved to the gutter and waved (politely, but possibly sarcastically) at him. He very generously acknowledged his mistake with a 2-fingered salute.

I trundled in on my cyclocross/pub/shopping bike with a heavy pannier this morning. Lovely weather, but it was like riding through treacle compared with the road bike.

The BB is kaput, but it felt as if there was drag from somewhere else too. I need to check the wheel bearings. Giving it a wash might help too.
Somebody must have serviced it for me during the day, as the bike felt much better on the way home. I put in a fair bit of effort, and was slower than on the road bike, but it felt quite satisfying nonetheless (a bit like thrashing a small, under-powered car), and I did make decent time along a potholed track.

HOW?!
There was an article on the bikradar a few years ago of a chap who did 144 miles round trip every day. He had to leave home at 4.30am every morning frown
I think he meant how did he get paid for doing it...tongue out
I did.
Sorry for the late response, it's Costain's 150th year so we are raising money for our trust charity thing. We get 2 days a year charitable stuff, someone organised a East to West Crossrail cycle, detour on the elevated A40 was fun for 1 junction.

1 day left, there is a plan to do the Thameslink route Bedford to Brighton!

Wimped out yesterday and today, problems with the undercarriage, mine not the bike!

I was hoping this week would be my first 5 day week on the bike, but alas, might have to be next week.

Rest day today. It was chucking it down at the time I'd normally leave home.

A glorious morning. Sunny and warm (not too hot). I needed to cart some stuff, but wanted to ride the road bike, so used my messenger bag. It didn't appear to add much drag when I was down in a tuck.

I managed PRs on a number of segments and was just shy of 19mph average over 27K, which is good for me on the outward, trending uphill leg with no tailwind.

I'm hoping that it stays still this afternoon.

I have a random question for you....

Why do you measure your distance in km, yet your speed in mph?

Good question.

I (and many other Brits) tend to think primarily of speed in mph and since the early 90s I've had my bike computers set to mph displays. When I run or walk I think in Km and min/Km. Distance-wise, I'm happy with Kms or miles.

ps. About 30.5 Km/h.

First 200km + 1200m climbing (It's Singapore, not the Alps) week commuting .... Thought I'd ride local trail which passes work for a change today after 4 days on the road. The weather decided that it would rain from lunchtime all afternoon with 20kms to do on way home, I spent the first 15mins when I got home hosing myself down, then after the bike.

Couldn't see the Garmin screen after 1km, that much crud flying around....

I was actually cold, not bad as it was still 30 degrees plus!

But having been off both bikes for 8wks with a broken frame, then slipping 2 discs in my back, I've put in 500kms in last 3wks so chuffed how the legs and back feel this week. Longer ride to come Sunday and then repeat next week.

When I checked out the bike earlier, I realised that the rear mudguard bracket had come lose and that the guard was pressing down onto the tyre, rubbing constantly. That might have some effect! It's all extra resistance training anyway.

Today. Bit dull but otherwise ok.

Big challenge this week, all five days, never done it before, 1 down, four to go.

Can't you do a detour on your commute though to get out on your bike?
