Windy, but it's the fens...
Today seems windier. I'm out later, but not cycling to work at the moment as it's 25 miles. smile
The weather forecast predicted a 25MPH fen headwind, I bailed and took the car hehe
hehe

If I were to ride to work (maybe next year when I'm a lot fitter), the head winds will generally affect my ride home.
My experience is the winds change at about lunchtime to ensure you are riding into them on the way to work and the way home. Sure feels like it.

A little ironic that my first post on pistonheads is in Pedal Power but what the hell.

Regular (3-mile) commuter in London here...debating how I get from cycling 20 mins each way to the seemingly huge (>50 mile) distances you guys talk about as recreational rides?

I'm riding a mountain bike on 26" road tyres at the moment - mainly as it's a 20 min ride into central London and my riding's for fitness. I couldn't see the point in making a short commute easier!

Take a look at a map, see if you can find a 4mile route. Ride that for a bit, it'll up from 6-8 miles a day. A bit later crack onto 5miles each way, and look at doing a longer ride at the weekend (10miles+ in one go). Fitness will build up and you'll get it sorted in no time smile

Ride in felt slow. Got to my desk, flag across the road is pointing right so I was into a headwind on the way here (unusual). Felt better about time.

Looked out the window at lunchtime. Flag now points left so it'll be a headwind to go home as well. Balls.

Cheers! Obvious I guess, but you get stuck in the routine. Will see what I can add on the home leg through picturesque East London wink

Nearly had a head on collision today at 5am with some bafoon who turned across my side of the road. That was interesting...

Nothing exciting to report this morning apart from I did follow a girl on a bicycle who had a lovely bottom smile

Going to try and leave the office at 4.45 today. When we had the last tube strike, the cycle to the train station took me 50 minutes. Usually takes me 20 frown

About 21 miles if she's your riding buddy, and a far stronger rider than you are, towing your fat carcass around your regular loop on a windy evening. Although to be fair, she was a friend, so I tended to focus more on the hypnotic sight of her cranks turning. She had far nicer cranks than I did back then... wink

Hateful headwind this morning. Didn't start until the afternoon so made it 45 miles with 3000ft climb..... 2000ft of which were within a 22 mile period. Only a 16.1 average but headwind and hills didn't help!

hehe

It was only that long because I made it that long! The more direct route I take is much less..... Only 20 miles with 1050ft climb! I fancied a longer ride today as I had to have tomorrow off as my legs were just in need of rest and I can't ride tomorrow either.
