After fitting a new BB last week my chainset has moved slightly outboard. I replaced a 118mm UN55 BB with one the same, except with the new one I can't seem to get both 'sides' in flush as before. They seem to bottom out on each other and so there is either a bit poking out either side, or I can offset one side in flush, and one side out slightly? WTF? I thought they were all for a 68mm bottom bracket shell, and the 118mm measurement was from the end-to-end of the spindles. Anyone know what has happened here?
Anyway, to keep this relevant to the thread... because of the aforementioned BB issue, the bike wouldn't shift over as far as the 53 ring, so I span to work in the 39. Probably good training for leg speed, but generally slower than usual overall as I normally spend the whole time in the 53.

The centre nut should tighten the cranks into the same position as you previously had, failing that a tweak of the limit screws will solve your issue, a half turn of each screw in the same direction until it's shifting well will sort it. Adjust them in synch with each other and you'll maintain the min/max movement of the mech whilst repositioning in line with the chainset.Anyway, to keep this relevant to the thread... because of the aforementioned BB issue, the bike wouldn't shift over as far as the 53 ring, so I span to work in the 39. Not posted for a bit, so thought I'd do an update. Rode in a few times last week on the roadie, great fun after the Hardtail on the Catalan holiday in the south of France. Bought a fantastic new full suspension mountain bike on Saturday, and went for a play on the local MTB course (I'm lucky enough to live within 10 minutes ride of a decent purpose built mountain bike trail), cycling wise life was good.
However, the past came back to haunt me - finally got my shoulder repair operation today, so am convalescing at home and will be in a sling for 6-8 weeks. 12 weeks before I can ride or do Karate again. Still, it's a means to an end, and I'm hoping it will finally sort out my left shoulder that I mangled last November doing an Eddie the Eagle over the handlebars after the Droylesden death trap tram tracks!
Gory pic time (me without a shirt on!)

I knew it was inevitable but yesterday I finally had a run in with some wildlife. What I think was a squirrel ran out from the right side of the path I was on and straight under my wheel. The lovely 35 CX tyres just went straight over it without a wobble! Looked back and it wasn't moving, then had a fit before jumping up and running off. I suspect on borrowed time. All in all much better than the last time I hit an animal in 1995. The. It was someone's cat and it went into my MTBs wheel rather than under it. You can imagine the rest.

Awesome! So you'll be up and rolling around again soon?
Should be able to get everything sorted on Thursday for Friday's commute. I'm away for the next few days anyway, so no rush uncinqsix said:
Up and running with nice new wheels - went in on them on Friday. They do seem to feel a little better than the old ones. The freehub is rather noisy (almost like a Hope), which I quite like and should be useful for waking up pedestrians on my morning descent down the shared path
Ooo I really like that. A great colour too.Vocal Minority said:
Beautiful morning - crisper than a bag of crisps.
The base layer has been broken out though.
Base layer for me too (and arm warmers) Hoping they're not back for good! The base layer has been broken out though.
Did smile to myself as a RLJ tried to follow a lorry he thought was about to jump a red. Needless to say the lorry didn't jump the red and the cyclist ended up skidding himself to a stop very close to the back of it
I returned to commuting after my holidays today. I had fitted new rear wheel bearings and re-fitted the drop bars to my cyclocross bike, but still had the off-road tyres on, which felt like pedalling through treacle above 18mph. I might do an off road variation on the way home to make use of the tyres.
