My first ride in for over 3 months. Knee felt ok and still does so happy days. A lot fresher than I was expecting once out on the road (wrong gloves) but I feel a lot better for it sat here in the office.

Well done on your first century! If you do head out to complete the Gran Fondo, don't do what i did t'other day!

I was out for a random ride, and toward the end I felt I was close to that Gran Fondo 120 Strava challenge, so tacked a few miles onto the end of my ride to take me over the 'finish line'.

Sadly, my Garmin is set to miles, and my mental arithmetic let me down, to the tune of just SEVEN kilometres! (or about 4.5 miles wink ). I think i'm going to take some advice I was subsequently given, and carry a note of the 'key milestone' miles>kilometres conversions, so that if in future i do extend a ride, I'll know exactly how much extra to tack on to take me to the next 'key' distance goal.

I managed to extend myself out to 113 miles in a single ride this year. My next distance/endurance goals will have to be 200km, or 150 miles, I think. But I'll probably save that sort of nonsense until next year...

Slightly warmer today, but a significant westerly headwind.

Carting a lot of stuff in the panniers. Again, much more comfortable, more capacity and more stable than an over the shoulder bag.

We have another work charity ride coming up, as we are working on Thameslink they are creating a race from Bedford to Brighton. You need a photo at each station. In theory the baton can only go via cycle as far south as St Albans and then it's can be transferred back to a bike at Croydon.

Me and a mate will obviously do Bedford to St Albans hand it over to the runners/scooters/walkers and then do the southern end (obviously cycling around london between St Albans and Croydon).

Works out at about 205km, which sound make Ditchling Beacon interesting after 190km!

Counts as one of two charity days as well! Paid to cycke...

I took it easy on the short route (15K) to the nearer office this morning and didn't even break a sweat. It was quite pleasant. I even resisted the urge to chase a chap who passed me!

Managed to make earlier train this morning, so had the chance to stretch the legs a bit. 11.5 miles instead of 2.5 if I'm running late. 14.8 average speed on the new Brompton (and 33.3 top speed through Hyde Park). Have yet to break the 15mph average on that in London, but I'll keep trying.

Still shorts for me. And my summer shoes.
Were you heading towards St Pauls from Holborn at about 7:30/7:45?
Not me - Marylebone to Knightsbridge. Only 2.5 miles if I'm running late or need to be in early, but if I have time I just do laps of the park to add miles.

This morning I managed to crack the 15.0 mph average. Well, hit it dead on.

Second day cycling after a month - my "boy bits" are a bit sore!

Not happy with what strava does when you have a train ride - it adds a line with nothing happening (see http://www.strava.com/activities/388974548). I will go back to recording two rides on Monday.

I made that mistake too. I thought the pause would allow you to collate two ride's either end of the train journey data into one, but miss out the train part. Meant I had to delete all the data...

I also don't like how it adds time when you press the stop button on the garmin and restart it later. I did a 60 mile ride last week at a 17.2 average but with around a 10min stop after 30-35 miles andand Strava got me at a 16.8 average...

Puncture 400 yards from the office. Rolled into the car park with a distinctly flat back tyre.

Tyre off, find small bit of swarf in the tube, spare tube out, fit spare tube, blisters on both thumbs from the sodding Gatorskin which clearly has a bead made of pig iron.

Ah well. Hopefully a nice smooth run home in the sunshine tonight...

Anyone else finding the fumes playing havoc with their chests now the temperatures are starting to drop too? Properly wheezing today, felt like an old man!
I'm not a regular cyclist, but I'd expect it to be easier when cooler. The air's denser so more oxygen available - if anything I get wheezy in the stale, humid hot Summer air.
Happily my route to work is 95% cycle path so no fumes alongside - maybe that's the difference.

Cycled to work for the first time today. Beautiful morning and arrived at work fresh as a daisy. cool

It's only 10 miles and nearly all cycle path. Lost my bearings a few times as the path doesn't follow my regular road-route but got here in about 45 or 50 minutes.

Perfect conditions, very light breeze and about 12°C - if every day were the same I'd cycle every day.
Wind & rain expected next week. frown

I ditched my Gatorskins after taking the skin off my thumbs as well. That was changing tyres in my garage and I was terrified of getting a flat in the middle of no where. Hateful things.

You possibly all know this, but if trying to get a tight tyre on/off, it can make it much easier if you ensure that the opposite "end" of the tyre bead is sitting in the bottom of the "well" (ie. the low part in the middle) in the middle of the rim, not near the side of the rim. The bead may then have a bit more clearance to be pushed over the side of the rim.

I don't recall having much trouble with Gatorskins in the past, but I may have just forgotten...
