Thought I was going really well today, arrived at work to find I had averaged 19.7mph, was hoping for at least 21.

Ben
If i averaged 19.7mph on my commute in that would be me going ridiculously well!
You probably don't live in more-or-less flat Cambridgshire. I have also put in 1000 miles this month so was hoping some of those miles had translated into speed!

Don't underestimate the value of recovery! I put in a heavy month of efforts and was feeling fairly jaded. Last week I had a week of pootling around on my old Raleigh 10 speed, this week I'm back on it and feeling much faster! The easy week has definitely been a huge a benefit!

Not only but also, I swapped the Trek OEM Bontrager R1 tyres for the Conti GP4000SIIs which are noticeably quicker!

Had a storming ride home tonight, everything clicked; traffic, lights, wind! Well happy smile

Fair point but most of those miles were over a week ago on a LeJog effort, which was at a slower pace but thought it would translate into general cycle fitness. Will try again Friday!

First commute on the single speed today, loved it! Been meaning to try it for years, but a 8-10% sharp climb at the start of my ride put me off and would make gear/crank selection hard. Just went with a 46/15

What a revelation, first thing I noticed was how silent it is! No noise, then its so smooth. Hill wasn't too bad, even if the bike is 13kgs! Found myself concentrating on pedal stroke and breathing instead of reaching for a new gear like I would normally.

First time out for the base layer and full gloves since the spring, just about perfect for it as I barely felt the cold at the start. Will ditch the base layer for the ride home though.

This weather is fantastic, ridden to work and back 4 times this week which must be a record, I can't find any excuse not to when its like that. I probably don't get up quite early enough but the mist and deer in Richmond Park are producing some wonderful pictures at the minute -

Summer gear again, too cold for summer gear but totally worth it. Bit of Santana playing and a gorgeous misty sunrise over the fens.

I was too cold this morning. Numb fingers by the time I got to work and no real need to shower. Time for winter gear I think.

With two layers, my body was just about fine for the short 10 mile route through the mist, but my toes were cold by the end.

The Aldi winter gloves were the right choice for this morning. I'll wear my summer gloves on the way home.

Body/arms were fine, with two layers and long sleaves. Legs were freezing with just cycling shorts on and fingerless gloves were not a good idea.

My legs felt fine in knee warmers and lycra shorts, but thin long socks weren't up to the job for my feet today.

Well that's 5 consecutive days of commuting done and dusted. I'm not quite sure how I've managed to do those 109 miles this week after doing the London to Brighton off road ride last Saturday! I have eaten a LOT of food this week to fuel it though.

That's awesome. I ride through the Warwickshire countryside to work and have posted a few beauty shots here and there to show people that cycling to work is a good thing.

In contrast to this morning, this afternoon it was gloriously sunny and warm for my extended 35Km ride home

Yep, lovely. And only a few miles from the madness of Central London.

Yeah I cycled through it on Saturday at the start of London to Brighton. It was great. The dear jumped out in front of us though!

I did what for me a reasonably long and hilly sportive yesterday so my legs were far from fresh. Particularly after i had a sports massage that nearly made me cry. So my commute today was quite simply embarrassing. So guy passed me on the road riding a 29er. I dont think i've ever ridden slower to work (in moving time terms) in fact! Thoroughly looking forward to the ride home now biggrin
