The daily "I cycled to work" thread
Discussion
Finally got my m10 fine tap and helicoils from amazon today, and repaired my threaded derailleur hanger; I even got away with not having to drill before tapping due to the ALU frame. Now just waiting for my threadless bb so I can ignore my threaded bracket, and I'll be back on the road again!
I love my MTB but it is a rubbish and slow commuter! Buzzing all my energy away with those gnarly knobblies ha!

Blimey had a few lorries and busses take their time behind me and be really patient, makes a change. Poor buggers, I was grinding up a steep hill on the single speed , was like stirring treacle!
Then the rain started
No mudguards and lots of farm traffic and back lanes: I got to work looking very brown, bar my bum thanks to an ass saver!

Got as far as the station and found no trains were going my way - somebody had fallen in front of a train ... Had a wonder about cycling all the way in (legs said no) and wondered about going via Manchester - decided to go home and drive in.
Shame, looks like a nice day to be on my bike!

30mph into a slippery bend near my house...st a car in middle of road....turn in more....bang straight on the floor, bike sliding off in distance
What a nob I was, way too fast into a bend with crap over inflated tyres on very slippery roads... car driver stopped came over whilst I was cleaning off the blood and goes "THATTLL TEACH YOU TO SLOW fkIN DOWN" ! I told him he was correct, thanked him for his advice and he just stared at me! A few people came out houses due to the noise of the bike hitting the deck and asked if I wAS ok.
Luckily as it was a steel single speed, bike seems ok, wheels were a bit buckled already. Lycra took a scrapeing, but seems ok. Best of all I fell on the pocket I usually keep my phone, for the first time ever I had it in the other side pocket so it didn't smash!
Only minor cuts or bruises, landed on my pelvis, and thigh, strongest part of my body so didn't hurt at all, bar a bruised wrist, which I could easily of broken if I stuck it out to stop the fall
Got home and the missues was angry at me for being late for dinner (hence the rush home) I couldn't even tell her I fell off , so sat at the dinner table trying to stop the blood running out of my sleeve!
All good today

OUCH
Glad it wasn't any more serious for you or phone, and I know the grief that can come at home for "being late", however the cause, so you have my sympathies! On the one hand I was unlucky, on the other I was VERY lucky not to damage myself or have to replace any expensive broken bike parts or phone! Going to take it as a blessing and a lesson to slow down when wet , I think the last week of dry weather made me forget how slippery things can get!
Ride safe guys (and girls)
First commute in eight weeks due to holidays, working locations and an attempt to boost swimming and running.
Following wind all the way in but legs were rubbish.
On the upside I wasn't held up by all the roadies clipping in and setting off from the lights in 96th gear as I was as slow as them for once.

Nice gentle ride in this morning as I've been training really hard lately and needed a gentle one.
Pretty chilly, my garmin had it at 3.5deg Celsius at one point! Base Layer, Jersey plus thin Gilet and thick 3/4 lengths and..... Winter overshoes (gripgrab Arctic!) which kept my feet nice and warm.
First ride out since getting new inner and outer gear cables and bugger me has it made a difference, so smooth and there is such little resistance shifting gear, especially going from the small to large chain ring.

Good 22km commute today. Started in the dark with headtorch (front and rear lights as I use a the Bristol-Bath cyclepath) and had dawn breaking behind me. Nice steady pace of just inside 7mins/mile (running). Plenty of cyclists at the Bristol end, plus a few other runners at the Bath end. The obligatory walker dressed in all black with no reflective bits or torch too
Really don't understand the flashing bright front lights used by some other commuters - they don't light the path, they're dazzling and make it very hard for others to judge the distance to the rider. They might be seen, but they're not helping others avoid them.

If I cycle in it usually takes 40-45 minutes, but this morning taking the car for a service it actually took longer even though the journey was shorter. When I left home it was in bright sunshine but by the time I got to the garage there was thick fog everywhere - made the half a dozen mile ride to the office interesting with no lights.
Ride into work this morning was stunning! LOVE this time of year!
