Had a brass band and poppy sellers at Liverpool St. this morning, and as a special treat for the (bloody) cyclists, reflective poppies:

Which I think is a nice touch and well worth a pocketful of change.

Horrible headwind on the way in this morning! Only averaged 15.1mph. Didn't work hard but usually when it's not very windy putting in similar effort I'm around 16.5+

Bit damp but not horrendous!

I could handle the rain, but the wind and the weight of my heavy rucksack , plus 5 days of riding in my legs and no gears : OUCH

Wasnt even hard work, I just couldn't turn the pedals (single gear) , the rucksack dragging me back!

As soon as i got on the flat gravel bit so I could spin up, the bloody heavens opened

still wasnt too bad!

Got 2 miles from home, broke a spoke. Uber home, then train to work. Fail.

Nightmare.

I had a pretty good ride in, felt fresh for a change! I think all my newfound commuting is starting to have a positive effect! It did help it was a nice, crisp morning. Enough for the longer leggings and arm warmers but should be OK without the warmers on the way home if the weather holds out.

Biked in with the clubs man train to work, 5 up, Starbucks on way in. 20 miles.

Cheating on way back, meeting missus at leisure centre for a swim, so only 15 miles.

Was going to long run tommorow, bike Saturday morning, but gonna switch it round I think.

Wet and windy, but surprisingly satisfying, on the way in this morning.

Walking through the office after a bad weather commute gives a sense of pride -and possibly smugness too wink

Ps. Last night's commute less good. Fixed a puncture and must not have seated the tyre properly. The Kevlar bead started working free and got worn away by the brake pad. Luckily no blowout.

Result = trashed tyre

I took a longer, scenic (if it hadn't been dark), partially pot-holed farm track route on the way home. Bikes that can cope reasonably with road and trail really are excellent.

Ruined Continental Ultrasport this morning

https://www.strava.com/activities/422358778

Went to do a quick tube change when i remembered i donated a tube to a stranger a few days ago... so did a really poor repair... in the rain, and hobbled my way into work.... late.

Ah! Note to self. Check saddle pack for spare serviceable tubes before next ride... wink

And on the subject of ruined tyres:

Peek-a-boo! I somehow got home on this after 62.5 miles. Didn't spot it until I checked the bike over before riding the following day.

Happily for me, I was thinking about swapping the tyres out anyway. I didn't much like them, and they'd covered about 3,000 miles. And I had a spare set of half decent tyres kicking around in the garage to go straight on.

I worry now every time I hear the 'ping' of yet another stone being fire out sideways from under the wheels. Bloody rural Hampshire roads!

you really did a number on that one didnt you!

but its definately a good idea to have spare tubes... today i found the tyre just could not hold high psi after i patched it, so i dont think i'll bother in future

Never bother fixing inner tubes, new ones are less than £2 a go.

Anyone else's local authority done nothing to clear leaves? Leafy parts of Bristol have an inch of Teflon coated mulch on the cycle paths, lots and lots of people falling off. I'm sure they wait until all the leaves have fallen to save cost, but still, poor show

Rode on the road rather than cycle path today as there were so many leaves on it. The leave also obscure the double yellow lines, so there were loads of cars parked on it too. rolleyes
