Nothing unusual about my ride today, except one cyclist beating the crap out another for some reason.

Legs were struggling a bit after nearly 4hrs yesterday evening.
Please tell me you caught it on camera?
Unfortunately not, I don't have a camera.

Drove in today as I had to walk a mile of railway in the cold pissing rain in the Lake District. Yesterday was a good ride other than nearly getting knocked off in Manchester City centre. Luckily I moved out into the road as I approached the side road, and the numpty had to slam on as he barged straight out into the main road. My long sections are getting quicker which I guess means fitness is getting better.

This morning was glorious. First morning for as long as I can remember when the head wind wasn't offensive. Nice bit of mist hanging in the valleys too. Not sure this spell of good weather will continue long though.

Nothing funny about it. You sir, are an absolute bellend. Work for home and dont risk infecting others. If you cant, tough st. Your boss is a bellend for not sending you home.

from my point of view -- https://youtu.be/_IrQHeDcMi8

the staff that get paid sick leave are off... the ones that dont, are all in whilst sick, which is probbably where i picked it up from.
but yeaeh, if i get sent home, thats very different to be being negatively judged for spuriously not comming in for havbing a bit of a sniffle.

What is it? 'A bit of a sniffle' or a 'really bad cold/cough'! Make your mind up!

Really painful chesty phlemy cough that has me coughing endlessly, and a completely blocked nose with me mostly losing my voice.
Im comming out the other side now though, so on the mend.

and to iterate my point, i would not have gone in if i recieved sick pay.

my average speeds have been really crappy this week too.

My biggest hate about working in a large open plan office of 40 people is the fact that people insist on turning up when they are dying on their feet. There's nothing big or clever about turning up to work when you are ill, it's just rude and disrespectful to your colleagues (especially when most people could work remotely and have the option of sick pay). tts.

I've never worked anywhere that doesn't pay sick days. Seems rather antiquated.

They dont pay sick pay here, seems like a backwards system to me.

Had a brown pants moment on my commute home yesterday.
I was doing about 25mph down a fairly steep hill, pitch black and with hedges down both sides, when a staffy bull terrier ran out from under one of the hedges.
How I a.) missed the dog and b.) didn't fall off on the wet leaves, I have no idea.

Also, must have been late this morning as I managed my PR on the Strava segment that runs the first half a mile from the end of my village towards work!

I fully understand your point, thanks, which I responded to and made my views clear.

You seemed to change how bad you felt depending on what point you were trying to make: just a sniffle v's really bad cold!

It is baffling that you think its acceptable to potentially pass on your virus due to a companies policy. Massively inconsiderate. You could quite easily infect people who then infect their children for the sake of a few days pay.

Dangerous too. I was off two weeks ago with flu. It has been going round and people are in bed for a week with it, but some people insist on coming in and then wittering on about how "I still came in", despite the fact that they did bugger all except spread illness around. I was in bed for 4 days too ill to dizzy to stand up, and I am fit and health. Flu can (and does) kill people with compromised immune systems. Sick pay or no, people should not go in to work if they are ill, and people who witter on about "I still come in to work" etc should not be treated as good workers, but responsible for all the time lost.

Some places don't pay sick pay, which is rather backwards, as you lose more through an office full of ill people doing sod all than a few people having a few days off. Most of the people who don't get sick pay and insist in coming in seem to be contractors.

I have managers that are paid very handsomly to manage.

Maybe they should manage.

If I call in saying I'm sick, I get judged and treated like I'm personally offending them.
If THEY send me home, then I avoid that crap

Maybe, maybe not.

Maybe you should find somewhere better to work

Speaking as an employer (and cyclist), I don't pay staff for sick days and I really badger them upon their return about what slackers they are for taking time off.

I hate sickness, I hate sick employees, just man up and get on with it.

I've only had 3 days off in 25 years, only lazy gits have time off sick! mad

That was how I was treated when growing up and that's how I run my business now.

Lovely ride in this morning by the way, a fair bit of red sky and surprisingly warm, unfortunately the head wind was still in evidence.

Before had surgery I was vomiting at least 9 days in every 10 and felt nauseous 24/7 pretty much as well as a few other symptoms for 15 months. I still came into work every day. I was off for 5+ months after that, mind, and despite not getting sick pay at our company my boss paid me enough to get by, out of the fact I kept turning up to work. I feel that was a kind gesture from him smile

Some of the reception staff here have a day off if they're a bit sniffly. Or not even that.

Someone was killed close by last night.

I have seen a lot of cyclists with no lights or very poor lights and I'm very wary now of what could happen.
