Warm and wet in London this morning.

Two items to add to my commuting kit;

- the OH is getting me a new Gore shell for Christmas as after 6 hard years my original one have lost it's waterproofing
- some light weight over boots - the neoprence ones I have could take me across the Antarctic but are a massive pain to get on and off. Need some lighter ones I can slip on an off for days like today
I'm not sure what your over shoes are like, but can you leave them on the shoes (rolled down?) when you take the shoes off and then put them back on together?

I have a pair of light overshoes from Aldi that have given decent service, but are now wrecked. The lightweight ones are quite handy.

Leaving the gym a couple of hours ago I noticed one person forgot to switch off and take their lights with them, so I turned it off. It seems to happen often. Hope people don't mind me turning it off for them.

They are very thick neoprene and very cumbersome - possibly one size too small. I can leave them on but (a) I look like I've got feet like one of the Tweenies (b) they hamper me getting my feet in an out of the shoes (c) they're too hot in weather like this.

I do tend to leave them on during prolonged cold/wet periods but otherwise prefer not to.

I just happened to spot the lighter weight ones the other day and thought they'd be ideal for popping on and off. And I could take them into work in my back pack for days when it's dry on the way on but wet on the way back. Layers for feet.

I passed the same cyclist 3 times this morning.

He passed me back the first time by jumping onto the footpath to pass a queue of cars waiting at a toll booth while I filtered down the right. He then held up the cars (and me) going over the toll bridge but I passed him back once a couple of cars between us had managed to pass him.

He then passed me again by riding though a red light - although to give him the benefit of the doubt, he went through as it turned from red to red and amber. I overtook him again just afterwards.

Finally, he passed me whilst I stopped to allow a bus that was indicating and pulling out. I decided to stop as the bus had started it's manoeuvre and there was a car coming the other way. I passed him just afterwards.

I bet all the motorists on that route remember and stereotype cyclists based on his behaviour rather than mine frown

Rant over biggrin

Hate those sorts of cyclists. Totally oblivious as to the effects of what they are doing.

Yep. I've been using them for a few months already. The roads round here are pretty wet and stty too from farm and construction traffic. Cold toes are not fun. I'm thinking I might need to dig out the knee warmers through.

There was a solid frost with us last night.

I had one like this last night, 3 red lights he jumped just to get in front of me , i find the best way to to deal with these kind of cyclists is to wait for an incline or hill & just whistle to yourself when you overtake them making sure he or she hears you.

Yeah but usually their headphones mean they can't hear.

Is it possible I have stress induced touretts syndrome?

I don't swear, generally, but when a car pulls out and I am doing 18mph towards him he got the full (and loud) nasty words from me!

Horrible time, the car in front of him was close but he just decided to go. I was on the main road, wasn't going too fast but it was at the end of a long shallow hill going down so wasn't slow either. He pulled out (I am so hard to see in my bright hello jacket and red helmet). Yanked on my brakes and skidded to the left - missed him by inches. Part of me thinks I should have carried on and gone over his bonnet!

Cool, damp and a bit of a headwind this morning.

Quite satisfying, though

Hard work cycling home last night. Partly due to a headwind and drizzle but I suspect the work Christmas party, that turned out to be an international food and drink festival may have had something to do with it. Cycling is quite hard work after sampling a mix of Belgian, French, Dutch, Portugese, Spanish, German, Italian, American and Turkish cuisine biggrin

I took the bus into work the other day as we had an xmas do in the evening. It was the only my third time not biking in almost 3 years, and I'd forgotten how dreadful it is. Took me almost an hour for a trip that's 25 minutes on the bike. Painful.

Had a text last night asking if the jeans I'd left in the changing room were mine. It turns out a colleague had taken them homing thinking they were his - could have been a bit of a disaster if I'd ridden in today!
