The delightful driver of a Vito did the classic "Look - turn - see me - dither - continue turn" across me today. I was coming past the Candlemakers Appartments in Battersea doing 25-26 and he turned right across my path.

I had one of those "bullet time" moments where you get time to think "Hmm, I wonder what's going to happen here. Doesn't look like I'm slowing down enough. I'm probably going to hit the side of the van. Ooh, the rear's locked up, I'd better give that a bit of cadence. Oh, perhaps I'm going to stop after all. I wonder how much of a dent I'd make in the side of it if I let the brakes off and ran into him? That would teach the Mr Magoo bd a lesson. Although he'd probably claim I ran a red light, even though I knew I didn't. And I'd probably injure myself. Daft idea really. Anyway, look, I seem to have come to a stop, and he's still moving forward - I think we've got away with this one."

This train of thought manifested itself as "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!"
I hope you gave him what for...

I had one of those in January, the only difference being it would appear I was a bit closer, so ended up doing a superman over the bonnet of a Peugeot 206. Thankfully I did a fair bit more damage to the car than to me or my bike. My train of thought was "THIS IS GOING TO HURT ! !"

Glad you had a better result.

'Twas a Mercedes Vito that 'T-boned' me at a roundabout in February. I'm still seeing a physio after breaking my shoulder blade.

That was a feckin' SMIDSY too, he failed to see me ALREADY ON THE FcensoredKING ROUNDABOUT!!! and consequently didn't even consider the need to 'Give Way' to traffic (ME!) already on the damned thing...

...I didn't really have time for a "FUUUUUUU...!!" moment, as I was checking my 'six' for idiots approaching from behind. So the van took me a little unawares, and I still have no recollection of the actual impact, nor the 'superman' off the front of the van. The first thing I remember was people helping me and trying to keep me still while we waited for the ambulance to arrive.

Back in the saddle after a few weeks after moving house. Old house was only around 3/4 mile from work and a nice flat route, new house is 4 miles from work with 2 long uphill stretches (one 3/4 mile) and bloody knackered when i got to work.

Did it as fast as i could but knees were killing me (seat needs going up a bit more maybe).

Looking forward to it getting easier as the weeks progress and i get back into cycling again.
It never gets easier, you just go faster biggrin

Good news chaps. I've spent an hour this evening putting mudguards back on the commuter bike. So that should be the last of the rain for the summer. No need to thank me.

Trundling Along CS7 between Clapham common & South Wimbledon at around 22.00 . i must of overtaken at least 5 cyclists with no front or rear lights , i have 3 going in the front & 3 going in the rear.

Really gets my goat up, i mean you can buy a set of cheap lights for next to nothing, what is wrong with these people ?

Lovely ride home tonight btw.

Still reaping the benifits of our alps trip apparently! Have been able to absolutley smash parts of the commute which certainly feels good! - had one guys yesterday come up to me at a set of lights and say "you were going at a fair rate up there!"

whoop!
AS above... - it never gets easier... - you just go faster!
Day off today as race training tonight.. - that or a FTP test on the turbo if its raining!

Headwinds galore last night on the way home.....

Due to a dodgy back made worse by a heavy rucksack, I decided to put the rack and panniers on the Chunko Commuter, now I find there's something fouling when I'm in the littlest ring at the back. It's staying at work tonight while I go out boozing, so will check it out tomorrow after the ride home.

Bacon & Egg sarnie pre-ride.

Bowl of Fruit'n'Fibre post ride.

got a 1 mile and half down the road and realised i forgot a couple of things so had to turn round and go back. so my 12.6 mile commute turned into a 15.6 mile commute. still made it to work on time though. smile

Blueberry shredded wheat type things for breakfast and a post ride shake.

The wind is swirly and horrible at the moment. Last night combined with a touch of the hunger knock meant the ride home was no fun at all. frown

Nice and wet this morning. The choice of the CX bike was a good one.

Still added an extra 9miles to the route biggrin

Steve

PS the tailwind home last night meant I averaged 21mph along with a 2 KOMs and a raft of PRs biggrinbiggrin!

Epic headwind home last night. Still managed to average 12mph (my best is around 13 - hills are mental) but was walking pace up some of the more exposed long uphills. And I nearly got killed by a tt in an E39 535i who thought doing 90 in a 30 limit past me without moving over was acceptable. I really have to get a camera.

Sounds like a close call .... not fun.

Clocked my 100th mile for the week cycling in this morning. Had nothing in my legs last night and limped home. Better this morning, though it is my neck that hurts the most.

Anyway, have tonight and tomorrow off the bike and will try to ride Friday. Beautiful this morning, still a bit windy though.

Had a bit of a rage moment this morning. A guy in a Renult Laguna typical exec type made an extremely dangerousover take where I had to swerve out of the way to avoid being clipped, he stopped at the next set of lights and got a massive ear bashing. His arguement was that I dont pay road tax. rolleyes Needless to say that didnt go down well with me, stating that neither did he. The lights changed and he sped off, I was close to dragging him out the car! Pricks like that make me rage so much! furious

Last night while I was heading down the road that passes the back of Earls Court station a pair of Tyskie swilling scumbags threw a football at the cyclist in front of me. He dodged it and I nearly hit a car swerving to avoid it.

I hope they get cockcancer.

Yesterday I had a dozy bint in a 10 year old Punto pass me and then immediately turn left into a side road causing me to brake and stop.

In hindsight, I should have gone into her.

Can we start a list to make the driving test harder and require renewal.

Steve

PS. Managed a 10th place up a hill this morning biggrin
