I'd be tempted to get a second hand clunker for the job, once you're used to cycling four miles is nothing and if you're still doing it after winter you can treat yourself to an upgrade smile

its only 4 miles and all flat city roads

If anyone finds a frozen shrivelled cock out there it's probably mine.

In other news, the fields smell of cabbage.

Great ride in this morning cool

At 6:00 it was pissing down, by the time I left at 06:30 the rain had stopped and it didn't start raining again until I was in the office with a nice hot cup of tea and a bowl of cereal.

Great timing smile

Trialled my new 'winter' bib tights on a ride at 10 o clock last night, frost was forming on all the cars as I was out, my snot froze, when I got home I knew what it was to be a woman. Wore them on the ride in this morning, with pants and MTB shorts over, got to work a man, much better.

Still got two more months of it getting colder, time to nut up or shut up.

First week this year where I haven't cycled at all! Been taking it easy due to an injury/infection

Was tempted to ride in today , but was put off by the heavy rain later, was looking forward to the cold and frozen fields

In the end I bailed at last minute to spend time with daughter, glad I did it started pissing it down, when it was on 0.5 degrees and torrential rain that was standing on the roads. Bit of a horrendous and slippery drive in, wouldn't have fancied it on my road bikes, as the mTB is being repaired

Staying closer to work this week so thought I'd bring the bike with me.

Normal Routine:
Up at 5.
Leave at 5:45
Arrive at work at 7:45
Breakfast at 8

Today:
Up at 6:20
Left at 7:00
15 mile ride to work
Arrived at 7:45
Shower at 8
Breakfast at 8:30

Spin Class this eve then ride home.

Snags:
I forgot to bring the charger for my Exposure light - so having to blag a back-up to borrow for the week just in case it doesn't last.

Rear light went flat as it only lasts 5hrs on a full charge. It's why I always have a back-up light!

After my weekend ride - 2hrs in the pouring rain and cold, I decided to get a couple of extra bits of kit so last night bought some new clear lenses, Endura Thermalite tights and waterproof shoe covers. They all proved themselves to be worthy purchases this morning - highly recommended.

Today was my first day of cycling to work. Everything had I had bought recently or already had did it's job. The Garmin was saying 1 degree and I was comfortably warm after a couple of miles in. Only 8 miles to work and took me 35 mins, but this was more due to traffic through Guildford.

It was almost a very expensive first ride, as when I got to work and locked the bike up, it seems my front light and 510 fell out of my helmet when locking up, thankfully a colleague saw this and called me later to say he had them. I hadn't even realised that had dropped out!

My head was a bit buzzy for the first 20 - 30 mins at work, so trying to concentrate was a bit hard. Hopefully this will change over time.

I did this in July, my first commuter was a Universal City Slicker at £200 that 'lasted' nearly 14 years but it was well past it by the time I sold it!

After a lot of research I couldn't find anything I liked for sub £500! I eventually brought a Dawes Galaxy AL brand new from my LBS for £600 and it is the best £600 I've ever spent on any transport! I ride it so much my wife and kids tell me I love it more than I love them! smile

It's been totally flawless and 1300kms later I'm still enjoying every ride, even after being punted off it by a Polish guy in a Transit it only needed a new front wheel!

The holy trinity this morning - cold, wet and dark!

Loads of traffic on my normally nice quiet roads slowed me down as the M56 is in turmoil so everyone was trying to find a way around.

You OK? Bike OK? I had a moment last night, tyres are getting worn, think I'm going to get some Conti Four Seasons, I was looking for some tubeless to go with my new Ultegra wheels but the Hutchinson offerings all seem like summer/race tyres.

Cheers mate, im well insulated! No slow motion this time, just down like a sack of spuds.

Worth getting the new tyres if youre losing confidence in your worn ones.

Something occurred to me this week. Riding to work is great fun and a bit of an adventure. Some days I have meetings after work, or I don't fancy the look of the weather or I just can't be arsed, so I drive.

Driving to work has regained a sense of occasion as I'm doing it much less so loving the car much more. Especially as I'm conscious of that pleasant 'I've been exercising' pumped leg feeling.

Win win win.

Little bit of an alarming moment last night as I came round a 90 degree corner to be confronted by a line of stationary traffic about 50 miles down the road. Wet road, but managed to just about get I stopped despite the arse wiggling all over the place

Must've been going a fair old lick to have that kind of stopping distance!

Been commuting on the single speed now for 4 months now doing 25 miles a day with a couple of hills, well the SS is in the shop being repaired (meh) so im on the carbon for a couple of days. I forgot how light it was for one but secondly was how strong my legs are now, I have PB'd segments this morning in the wet I couldnt get close to before in the dry. I'm going to enjoy my ride home I think. Cant wait for the summer and the dry I'll smash these segments again. biggrin
