The daily "I cycled to work" thread
Discussion
On my way home today I found the old railway line I use had been ruined by council (probably) vehicles. It's a compacted gravel path but does get fairly soft and muddy in places. For whatever reason vehicles have been down there and churned it up so badly even guys on some mountain bikes were pushing their bike. I then had to cycle the last 2.5 miles without being able to clip into my pedals due to the mud and stones jammed up in there. Now I'll have to commute on the road, which I'm not that happy about. Trying to find out who at the council is responsible for looking after it so someone can get out there to level it and compact it again. Rain and freezing temps will only make it worse.
Rubbish commute home today, fed up with being cold, wet, under dressed, overdressed, snotty, rain on my glasses so oncoming traffic headlights glare and I can't see st, and getting changed taking 15 mins with leg warmers, layers, cap, hemet, overshoes, etc.
Grrrrrrrr.
Oh and why can't anyone in Bristol surface a road, and why is the coronation road cycle path so rough? Almost unrideable on 23s.

Bike is in the menders, so I'm going to Boris bike for the first six miles and run the last four. Should be fun!
Turns out it's not that fun, but I think I just picked a bad Boris. Nasty flat tyres and some interference on the chain. With a better one tonight I reckon I can clear a 14mph average...Absolutely soaked today, not a dry patch on me anywhere, every radiator in my office has a different piece of clothing drying on it.
I swear there were puddles in places where I've never seen them before, there was almost a river running across the promenade at Branksome and I only saw 3 other cyclists compared to the usual 20 or so.
I'm hardcore!

I was at a client dinner until 11:30 last night, and I have to get a flight this afternoon, so no cycling to work for this week. I therefore decided on a circular "commute" this morning across the local commons.
Freezing (but not quite frozen) mud is interesting!!! I've never had to pedal hard in the middle ring to keep moving downhill before!

After 5.5wks off the bike with various issues and returning to Europe for the festive period I got a ride in on Sunday to check whether I still could.
Have ridden everyday this week (25kms round trip), but yesterday's tropical monsoon with headwind in all directions was hard work, with a Skype call when I got in the door.
Imagine the hardest/biggest volume of water shower you've ever had, with strong winds and that gets close. At least it's not freezing cold here!

The lights, they mock me! Changing the green the second I unclip.
Honourable mention to the lady in the convertible e class who charged out of a roundabout about 5-6 feet infront of me (she can't have been going slower than 30 so obviously had no intention of stopping - and also to the fiesta who was to important to wait for the stationary car infront to turn right across traffic, so swerved abruptly into the bus/cycle lane (on the left to get round the car) forcing me to slam on the anchors and narrowly avoid a collision - before accelerating off presumably because he knew he'd been a naughty boy. - A plague on both your genitals....

Epically icy this morning. Must have rained overnight then froze this morning. Took me a lot longer to get to work, still surprised I managed to stay on 2 wheels, a couple of dodgy moments had my arse tightly clenched.
Your mad. I drove past the Bold Forester this morning and could feel the car breaking traction on several occasions.S10GTA said:
