Still, dry and bracing this morning.

Leg strength slowly returning.

But still expecting to struggle a bit on the way back.

Paying for December laziness (and flu).

After 5.5wks off the bike with various issues and returning to Europe for the festive period I got a ride in on Sunday to check whether I still could.

Have ridden everyday this week (25kms round trip), but yesterday's tropical monsoon with headwind in all directions was hard work, with a Skype call when I got in the door.

Imagine the hardest/biggest volume of water shower you've ever had, with strong winds and that gets close. At least it's not freezing cold here!

Epically icy this morning. Must have rained overnight then froze this morning. Took me a lot longer to get to work, still surprised I managed to stay on 2 wheels, a couple of dodgy moments had my arse tightly clenched.

The lights, they mock me! Changing the green the second I unclip.

Honourable mention to the lady in the convertible e class who charged out of a roundabout about 5-6 feet infront of me (she can't have been going slower than 30 so obviously had no intention of stopping - and also to the fiesta who was to important to wait for the stationary car infront to turn right across traffic, so swerved abruptly into the bus/cycle lane (on the left to get round the car) forcing me to slam on the anchors and narrowly avoid a collision - before accelerating off presumably because he knew he'd been a naughty boy. - A plague on both your genitals....

Your mad. I drove past the Bold Forester this morning and could feel the car breaking traction on several occasions.

Freezing mist on the long rural section of my ride this morning.

-My neck Buff had frost on it when I arrived.

It felt slow, but i was a bit quicker than the previous commutes in this year. 35mm Land Cruisers are a must for my route in winter.

I don't know why the military spend so much money on camouflage and stealth technology.

They should just send troops into battle dressed in dayglo head to foot, festooned with LEDs, on bikes. Literally no-one would ever notice them.

Bold Forester in Sarisbury Green? I commute past their too. I nearly came a cropper exiting a roundabout before that with the rear wheel trying to overtake the front. I feel it just adds excitement to an otherwise dull ride!

I bailed on the ride in as I was slipping around taking the dog for a spin round the block at 6am... Kinda glad I did as it was slippy out there, not sure if it has anything to do with it but the frost on the car was very hard this morning...

Back on the bike next week...

As my previous post, I got soaked on Wednesday morning and then later that day developed a sore lower back, not something I usually suffer from.

My wife says it's just a side effect from having a cold and wet back, does that sound right?

It's kept me off the bike yesterday afternoon and this morning, but I think I'll give it a go tonight and see how I get on.

Me too. Pushed down on the pedal to get out of my road, rear wheel span up, chain slipped off and I ended up in the middle of the main road with no drive. Good times.

Apparently I am a "f_ing idiot" this morning (according to a woman driving a white C2 / Aygo style car). I went on the "straight on" lane - going "straight on", whereas she went from the "Left turn only" lane (also going straight on).

I cycled in to work this morning - first time on a bike for about 2 years. biggrin Still, it was nice and warm at quarter past seven... eek

Not sure I'd do it all the time but for the occasional day rather enjoyed it (13 mile round trip).

15 miles this morning at zero degrees with a fair bit of humidity and into a stiff headwind = BRRRRRRRRRRR! Still, by this evening it'll be a bit warmer and I'll have a big tailwind, so I don't mind too much.

I once had to submit a testimony to a court as I was witness to a van trying to do that on a roundabout. Wiped out a poor kid in a Seat Ibiza, two months after his driving test.
The van driver kept saying "you was overtakin me on a roundabout". No, you were turning right, without indicating, and without LOOKING from the left hand lane.
It actually went to court as he wouldn't admit he was wrong. Happily, he was found to be, and not only had to pay for all the damage, but also all the costs for the court too. But I bet he still doesn't think it was his fault.

Left my bike at work last night as it was someones leaving do, left around 7pm and the trains were rammed, so glad I commute by bike.
Felt like I made the right choice in the morning when I put on the weather forecast and saw this

Doing my first commute by bike to work tomorrow.

No idea how long it will take me. It's only two and a bit miles, and all downhill on the way. But leaving at 5:30am. Giving myself 30 minutes to get there and then showered and dressed for 6:15ish (don't start until 7am, but bit of paperwork and allows me to make sure if have enough time).

If it's icy though I think I'll pass!
