Thoroughly pleased with this mornings commute. The headwind was a little stronger than preferred along the A27 but the forecast heavy rain turned up late and only started falling as I turned into the car park in Hamble. Result.

Not feeling great this morning, so decided to drive, thank god I did, it's 40mph+ down on the coast, like a sand storm plus a headwind on the way home so I'll be driving home as well.

The tail/cross wind on the way home was very welcome.

It was still light almost all of the way home as it was in the morning and the potholed track en route has been repaired (well, sort of) so I'll be able to re-fit the slick tyres soon or use my road bike if I don't need to cart anything to work in the panniers.

Took the race bike on the commute today, forgot it had no lights, yet another pair of Lezyne's in the parts bin now.

Into week 8 of renewed commuting. Had a check up at work last week and my resting heart rate and blood pressure are nicely down. This morning my legs felt the strongest they've been in a long time.

Now need to keep it up, add proper running back into the mix and shift 10lbs.

Onwards and upwards.

I finally ended up buying a new bag as my old (must be nearly 20 years old - with repairs such as my stitching, use of plastic zip ties, metal hose clamps and a couple of goes of anti water stuff) has given up any chance of being waterproof.

Bought a new bag and got it cheap as the middle strap part is missing. Don't actually appear to need a new middle strap, but would like to know where to get one? I need a couple of female clips like this: http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/1-Duraflex-Ste... - anyone know who sells them in the UK?

First commute of the year this morning, weather was lovely.. However, I severely underestimated how cold my toes would get - thicker socks needed!!

Yesterday evening on my way into work I was nearly hit by an overtaking Audi on Lynn Road, Wisbech. Obviously that driver hasn't seen the Penis Experiment clip or has and needs one of those vacuum pump things.

Anyway I lift my right hand off my bars to give a hand gesture not part of the Highway Code when I am overtaken again by someone with blue lights on the roof.
Mr Audi is pulled over in the next lay by and the passenger of the Police car flags me down.

Did he hit you sir?
Me said:
No, but it was bloody close though.
Norfolk's Finest said:
As he didn't hit you we'll give him a warning this time if that's okay with you?
Me said:
Brilliant! Thank you officer.
A couple of hours later I found out via a colleague Mr Audi gave the Police attitude so they ended up giving him three points and a hundred Pound fine for SP50 as he was doing over sixty when they played back the video of the overtake. cop

It would have been a conversation if he kept his gob shut. rolleyes

On my way in to work...

...and on my way home this morning...

...I took a moment to appreciate calm before the storm.

Thanks. I need to. Heart appears good but muscle density too low/fat too high. It gets worse with age.

Anyway, I usually hit a tipping point after 8/10 weeks when strength and stamina increase to the point where I can sustain a higher workload for longer. Then muscle starts building faster and fat starts to drop away more quickly.

Cycling is a good base as is swimming. Just need to find the time to add in 3 x decent runs a week (4-5 miles) and in another 8 weeks I'll have lost another 6-8 lbs. So that will mean I'll be 10-12 down on Jan 1st. Hopefully I can then keep it going for another 8 weeks and have lost over a stone by the summer. Target is to lose 20 lbs all in.

I'm sat at the front of the traffic queue at the lights, cars behind me etc etc. The cycle path runs across the road ahead, at this time of dya, its mostly from right to left, its also controlled by lights. My lights turn green, I make to ride off, traffic behind starts to move too but dhead cyclist appears from my right ignoring the lights and rides in front of me causing me to stop. "My lights are green" I say, "whatever" he replies, cue irate motorists behind me which dhead cyclist doesnt have to contend with as he continues on his merry way, we really dont help ourselves sometimes....

I'm still poorly, I've been sat doing maintenance on my bike when I'd rather be riding it frown

Although I have taken the time to fit summer tyres, new tubes, strip and clean the cassette/jockey wheels, checked indexing, lubed chain and cleaned up the discs.

Hopefully be back on tomorrow or Saturday, looks like we have a nice weekend coming up cool

I've decided to start next week. It's now light enough in the morning and hopefully the mild turn in weather will continue

Nice quick sunny ride in this morning, went to get changed and discovered I must have taken my trousers home n forgot them, doh!

Luckily it's only 5 miles so jumped in the work runabout to get them.

Nice extended ride home, all in daylight for the first time this year.
