I'm more worried about my overtake nonchalant cum poker face than KOMs these days (or maybe I'm the only whom plays that game).
I have very little competition on my route, but tomorrow I'll be on the MTB with a baby seat after doing the nursery run. I really hope there are a couple of roadies to go past. I always just go for a breezy "hiya" like this guy from the old Harry Enfield sketch:Second day back commuting on the bike after a 3 week break due to a virus. Lost a bit of fitness and still not 100% but it's good to be back out there.
Made a mistake though by thinking it would be warm enough to not wear the cap under my cycle helmet that I use in cold weather. Had minging ear ache by the time I got to work.

Wow. My head would be sweatier than a very sweaty thing if I tried to wear anything under my helmet in this kind of weather. Think I wore a cap twice all winter!Made a mistake though by thinking it would be warm enough to not wear the cap under my cycle helmet that I use in cold weather. First thing this morning it was bright and sunny but not that warm. Wind chill on some of the faster sections can still be an issue. On the way home I won't get the same problem because the air is a lot warmer now.I've been 'riding to work' all this week, loved being out in the open and taking in the fresh air. Makes a change from a session on the rowing machine/weights. The Kennet & Avon canal is nice and close so I've had rides along that.
Doffed my helmet to these guys - you don't want to wobble & fall off of these! Nice relaxing way to travel, all the same.
The bike will be getting a good rinse tonight, covered it dust.

At 8:00 I realised I had a meeting at 8:30, so ended up setting a PB, although annoyingly 3s above my target time.
Breakfast: Alpen with almond milk.
Items of clothing forgotten: Socks.
Nothing like being late to make you push a bit harder.Breakfast: Alpen with almond milk.

Although nothing beats a bit of competition on the road.
Also socks is better than pants
Was going for 5 days commuting in but only managed 4! Good feeling though, can feel myself getting faster each time and am now commuting on the Hardtail for a better workout. Highlight of the week was a Strava personal record on the MTB that beat the previous record set on a road bike!
Witnessed a left hook this week, the guy stopped in time and gave the dozy git in the old white battered people carrier a mouthful, then 2 days later the same thing almost happened to me. Cheetham Hill if anyone knows it. The same area, similar vehicle, but they indicated 20 yards before the turn, so I jammed on the brakes and avoided the crash. Didn't bother arguing with them, i generally find that sort of thing pointless. Lesson learned is always ride these areas on the outside of the traffic jam, in the centre of the road!

Yes. One of those areas that always appears to have a terrible standard of driving. That crossroads/5-way junction in the middle is horrendous.
Cheetham Hill Rd is utterly mental and in rush hour its complete carnage. People abandoning cars in the middle of a live lane to go shopping was so common I think it was just accepted. Used to hate driving it so much that I would go out of my way to go around it. Would need to grow eyes in the back of my head before I'd even consider cycling down it.Fugazi said:

Longsight on the A6 is pretty similar. The cyclists on Oxford Rd at most hours of the day must be kamikaze too. I'm glad I live in the suburbs and commute away from town.Gassing Station | Pedal Powered | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
