Anyone invested in one of those £7.99 cycling computers?
Might be tempted just to see what it's like at that price

Worth a punt at £7.99 surely? I might pop down there after work today and pick one up... and some gloves smile

At £7.99 you can turn it into a cadence meter.
I bought one of those cycle computers to turn into a cadence meter but came across a slight hiccough.

Seems it needs to be within a certain distance and angle for it to work. That's gonna cause some issues I think!

Bought a stand, storage shouldn't be an issue, comes in a small enough box.

Also shorts were surprisingly roomy by comparison to past experience, and good value. LBS sells same kind of thing at like 3 times the price

Gloves & toolkit for me.

Gloves are great.

Tool kit will be a fine 'get me home'. The 'under saddle' pouch they come in is great too - bit of space in there for other things.
Got one recently from Lidls and I carry all sorts in it. Spare batteries for lights, my mobile chocolate/jelly babies. Its super value.

Just heading out to LIdl just now to hopefully get a stand and more fingerless gloves

JoJo, I think the set ODO bit is so you can set the ODO to your existing mileage, much like clocking a car. If your old cycle computer packed up at say 367 miles, you can set this one to 367 to follow on from where the old one left off. I might, or course, be talking complete horlicks, but that's my take on it.

Picked up a computer in my local store last night.

BTW Penicuik had loads of computers and work stands left last night.

Will get it fitted a)once I sober up after tonight, and b)once the local roads are no longer under water!

Duct-tape the transmitter to the down tube at a funny angle with the magnet on your crank.
Job done, no?

The red blob in betweeen the chain is where I'd like it to go as it's reasonably out of the way, where it might need to go is the second red blob just under the water bottle cage but it needs to stick out virtually horizontal to get near enough to the magnet for it to work and it likely to get ripped off at every possible opportunity. Ditto on the saddle down tube.

Good point.
In that case put the RECEIVER on the seat tube, facing forwards but upside down and about halfway up.
That way all you need to do is bend over in half and stick your head between your knees (while maintaining a consistent cadence) in order to read the thing.
Do I have to think of everything?? wink

Yes, you do wink but I'd already considered how I could mount the receiver on the cross tube, although not at 90 degrees, so I'd need some form of adaptor or just mount another set of handle bars on the cross tube but with enough clearance for my knees!

Just assembled my bike stand; rather pleased with it. Shame it's at my folks house and the project bike is 60 miles away.

From Sat, more bike stuff at Lidl - track pump for a fiver?
http://www.lidl.co.uk/en/our-offers-2491.htm?id=36...

just seen - only good for 6 Bar, so 87 psi - still the head may fit my track pump as that's all I need really.

Got last year's track pump - it's ste.
On the other hand it makes a nice cheap backup pump to stash at work.
