Im thinking of buying a new bike and Ive heard alot of good things about the Cube MTBs. Im going to go for a hard tail as I'll be using it for alot of riding not just blasting down the trails. Any thoughts or experience with this? http://www.cube.eu/en/hard/ltd/ltd-race-grey-metal...

Great bike. I have that exact model myself - the 2011 version.
Light and very chuckable. Fork is nice and smooth, brakes are powerful (although they were Formula RXs on the 2011). Have swapped out a few bits in the 6 months I've had mine but nothing huge - pedals, grips, saddle, seatpost and of course tyres. The tyres the come with have little grip and a hard plasticky compound.
If I was to pick one negative, it's that the bike is not great going down steep slopes. It it though an XC bike and probably no worse than any other at doing that.
Got mine just before Xmas last year for £800. They tend to get reduced a lot when the new year's models come out. Might not be more than a couple of months away from that happening.

Ive heard alot of people mentioning the tyres and pedals being rubbish on them. Are they really that bad?

Not expensive items to change though?
Wouldn't put me off.
Although they were slightly out my budget when I was looking and I went for a Boardman Urban MTB Team which, if you don't mind rigid carbon forks is a great bike.

Alex rims are ok, pretty much industry standard at this sort of price, they are worth changing in due course but it wouldnt put me off that bike, the rest of the spec (where it matters) is high end stuff like SLX, XT, Fox forks and Easton components. i'd go for the black and not that silver/blue ugliness though!

All the black Cube bikes look the same though. I quite like the silver/blue.

I swapped them for Schwalbe Nics (front) and Ralphs (back) with evo/pacestar compounds. Much more grip and saved almost a pound in weight between them. Pedals are those half plastic half metal things with reflectors on them that I had on my bike 30 years ago as a kid. I've got the black too as the alternative last year was a bit bling. The grey looks a lot better this year. Put on an Easton Elite seatpost and a Selle Italia gel flow saddle since that pic

All bikes come with crap pedals... most good bikes don't come with any pedals at all.

Looks a nice balanced spec. Yes pedals are s t, all someone has said, all OE pedals are crap, once you get up to a certain price point bikes don't even come with them. What brakes does it have? The spec sheet shows Shimano, the pics look like Formula RX? What's the price? It would make a great 2nd bike for the Mrs - she's outgrown the ability of her GT Agressor.

I've got one of these. Got it a couple of months ago. Abolutley love it. Mine came with half decent metal pedals though?? I guess its down to the individul supplier as the bikes will come from Cube with no pedals. I got mine from Leisure Lakes with the metal pedals.
