Janosh - I've got a set of those, they're a fantstic all round wheel for the money. Pretty light, bombproof, and they are stiff too as I've sprinted on them and not seen much wheel rub. But seeing as most people don't put out 1000+ watts while climbing I doubt you'll have any rub issues in most situations smile

Personally I think they are the best possible wheels you could get for your budget and you'll see improvements from your first ride on them yes

wink
Yes - they came nicely inside my original "budget" of £250 whistle

hehe

As with all these things, with not a lot more (well, double), you've now come away with something you're mega happy with rather than just making do biggrin

Question for Mavic wheel owners: is a little play in the freehub body normal?

I built up the wheels yesterday and once i had fitted the cassette i noticed play in the freehub. I removed the cassette again to make sure that it was sitting tight, and its definitely play in the freehub body itself..

Anything i can / should do to before I head out for my first ride?

I'm tempted to pick up a set of RS80s at £300. Would go nicely on the Boardman and might stop me looking at buying a Canondale CAAD10 or Supersix.........

I've been wheel shopping this week. I started looking at Fuertebici wheels ( http://www.fuertebici.com/shop/60mm-carbon-clinche... )as the look fantastic and superb value for money. Unfortunatly in a black on black they are about 4 weeks away from being delivered and I am an impatient person!

I have therefore opted for Kinetic Ones 55mm carbon clincher http://shop.kinetic-two.co.uk//kinetic-one-k1-55c-...

They will be with me Monday, and are being provided with no stickers at all to give a clean look.

My cycle buddy has just put a set of their 33mm wheels http://shop.kinetic-two.co.uk//kinetic-one-k1-aero... which have transformed his Trek 1.2

I know they aren't a well known, highly publicised brand but he is very impressed with the quality and the feedback on the website seems very good.

We'll see Monday, a bike porn picture will appear shortly afterwards smile

Can someone buy those superstar wheels...I need a guinea pig biggrin

How hard is it to build a wheel exactly, not doubting the skill but can the average joe with a some patience acheive it? Tempted to try my luck. Worst case send a twisted pile of half scrap to a wheelbuilder to complete?

There shouldn't really be any play in the freehub body. Make sure you have the thin washer inside the cassette though. When you say "play" how much is it?

With the cassette removed you can rock the freehub body on the hub. I've tripple checked that everything is assembled correctly, so im heading back to the shop for advice tomorrow.

Been to the shop, and the good news is that the guys there say that the amount of play i have is not unusual...

The bad news is that they agree that "it's not the best" curse

Not sure what to do now. Do i just take the view that i'll need a new freehub or one of the american 'bushing kits' in the near future?!

Not the best start to ownership of what are in my opinion reasonably expensive wheels..

I wouldn't worry unduly about it then. Get riding.

It's under warranty (on the assumption that said wheels have one).
The supplier has deemed them fine.
Ride them to destruction. If they break, it's the shops problem smile

FWIW you see free hub wobble on a lot of wheels, Shimano particularly. Never been a problem otherwise.
