"but cyclists dont pay road tax so why should they be on the roads......" Sadly thats the mentality we face!....
I appreciate cyclists dont make it easy sometimes, wearing dark clothing, no lights, jumping lights etc but the British motorist is too ingrained in their ways for any campaign to be of value as they already feel persecuted on so many fronts be it petrol prices, "road tax", speed cameras etc. Ironically, all of those are within the motorists domain to reduce/avoid be it driving smaller cars, driving more efficient cars or simply driving slower!!!!

What's the source of that stat? IIRC it came up because Boris said that something like 3/4 of cycle accidents were caused by cyclists whereas the actual figures were approx opposite

Fixed that for you. I don't wear a helmet because I can't be arsed. Say it with me. In fact, just try "I don't wear a helmet." Don't bother with "I don't wear a helmet because wearing a helmet will give you cancer". HTH. I would like you to justify your statement that I am a liar. I do nor appreciate defamation on a public forum, therefore I require you to detail where I told a lie together with the proof of such. And just to prove you haven't read my previous posts, I will point out to you here and now that if you care to read what I typed before I admitted that in most instances I DO wear a helmet, but I do not agree that it should be compulsory. Furthermore, if you care to read what I have typed before you will see that I have given full details of the reasons and circumstances in which I wear said apparel. But as you have proven before, you simply read the snippets you want to hear, cherry pick them, and then quote the cherry picked parts to make it look as though individuals have said something they haven't. So, to be blunt, you have just proven yourself to be the a hole I suspected you were.

What's the source of that stat? "collisions involving cyclists on Britains's roads: establishing the causes" (TRL, 2011 I think). It's mirrored here if you want to have a look, or on TRLs website (free but registration required). Good reading actually. Possibly some TFL studies as well. Oh, and Bacon is Proof, I hope you've realised what you've done: Bacon Is Proof said: I am an engineer working in British Standards that has been involved in the design and manufacture of many safety systems for many different sports Bacon Is Proof said: wearing a helmet will give you cancer I forsee... a Daily Mail headline . (oh and btw my answer would be d), not fall off the wall, so I don't have to buy a mat, carry a mat with me, and feel dorky turning up for a meeting with a mat. My estimate of how achievable d) is, how much the mat costs, how much inconvenience it represents, and how self-conscious I am determines whether or not I use the mat. I agree with you btw, was just expanding the logic for those unimaginative souls who cannot see why you wouldn't have a mat. Now I'm going to find a picture of a cat with a mat).

For ease of your tiny brain, what the whole sentence/post said was that talking in joules and weights is not easy for a layman to equate into miles per hour. I never actually said whether I was qualified or not, you don't know me, so your assumption has just made an ASS of U, but not ME. You may want to have another think about that...

What I meant to say was that: "I had heard comments that you were a liar" "Does daz3210 tell the truth? If he doesn't, how can we believe him?" "It has been bandied about that daz3210 regurgitates bulls t" "It is a commonly held thought that daz3210 tells porkies" "It is questionable whether daz3210 tells the truth" There, I've been less assertive to make you more comfortable. Yes, I have read the whole thread, including the bit where you state you wear a helmet. You clearly state you wear a helmet because a) your club makes you and b) you can't get your son to wear one without donning one yourself. Hardly a great attempt at not coming over all anti. But there's no point in trying to discuss with the close-minded, so I'll bow out. I'll let you have the last word, by way of thanks as I've never had the need to use the phrase "Lily-livered" before but it sums you up nicely.

I take it this is as near to an admission I will get that you cannot back up what you type. I also suggest that you seek a definition of lily-livered. Again you chose to cherry pick on parts of comments, where if you quoted the whole the meaning would be seen as entirely different.

It's very much common sense. Using a story of a 13 year old riding through the woods and bashing his head is not a good basis in which to legislate on the compulsory use of helmets.
