He averaged that figure over the Roubaix in 2010, but first half he was sat in, then obviously second half he was in break then solo for last 20k or whatever. So probably one third of the race was 220 sat in, one third 300 in the break then probably 400+ for the solo bit. So I guess the figures are always a bit misleading for stages etc.

Thing is, I am not winning every week so although good numbers they are no better than others I'm riding with. But really looking forward to getting a new set of numbers and getting the tt bike done (waiting for disc) and then starting with a few sporting tt's in feb then races all way through to sept smile

biggrin

So did a 20 min test today, followed the proper protocol, hard 5 min effort, then 20 mins at full gas, I still paced is badly as I can see the first 5 mins of the 20 were over 400w, and the last 5 mins only 360.

Anyway, overall average for the 20 min was 370, so pleased with that for this time of year, not really done too much last few weeks either, so confident I will be able to push that figure up by feb time. Got a week in Majorca too!

Great stuff, I feel my powermeter rental will end up in me having to purchase one no doubt.
Yes, very rarely does rental not end up in ownership, seen that a few times now.

Yes was fairly pleased, if I can't push that up to 380 or so in the next 3 months I'll be very disappointed. That combined with losing some weight as of Xmas will see me at a decent level.

Worth calibrating it. Every person I know that has used one has said they're massively out, these have been at gyms though. One recently spat out 390w for 20 mins for a 59kg girl...

2x20 at 320 is good, have you got times in tt's you can reference to cross check up, to see if the watt bike is about right?

Not always the case there are people that cannot match their indoor power outdoors. If it is the case then I will be very pleased but I seriously doubt I will get out 400w over 20 mins just now.

Agree more often than not that it is the case, but I know there are a couple of chaos that can't match their turbo power. I actually do my sessions outside with just shorts on and I still overheat.

Yes, Kurts are solid. I know a chap who has done 'extensive' testing and they are decent bits of kit.

Might try this outdoor/indoor theory with a solid lap of Richmond park, that is only a 15/16 min effort, so will be interesting to see how it differs, although it does have a fair bit of downhill in it I suppose.

Good work, let us know how you get on. I might go out in a bit and try and do 500w up box hill, see how far I get ha.

Its xpower on GC.

Yes, things like that skew it quite a lot, I don't really trust it over short flat rides. It works ok on 1-2 hours of up and down, but other than that sometimes its just nonsense IMO.

There isn't any road that is a 20 min run without interruption or loads of hills though frown

Interesting.

I mean ultimately it is just a measure to
get a fairly accurate FTP. Ultimately for me it's only important what I can get out on a tt course/in a break

Good question!

I'm doing a mix of zone 3 stuff on the road, 2x20 and 1 hr st sweet spot so around 90% FTP. And after Xmas I will start working in some higher intensity intervals. I'm also going to Majorca in early feb so hopefully some solid long hill efforts will also help.

I also will be adding in more of the sweet spot and tempo stuff after Xmas.

Races with incline finishes will suit you. Good short term power there for your weight.

I must do another FTP test. Hoping that the bulk of tempo riding and sweet spot stuff might have pushed it up a bit.

Reckon I'm going to need bout 385-400w to do what I want to do in 10 mile tt's.

Just keep plugging away, you don't need anything like a powermeter to get much better quickly, keep going out with those guys. Bear in mind its winter and a lot of old school types will be taking it steady in the hills at this time of year wink

Who are the team, and who are the elites?

Well he looks decent enough to me.

There are less than 200 elite riders in the UK - so its pretty hard to do.

Andy what level do you race at? They're pretty solid 1st cat numbers.
Yep very good.

What did you record them on?
