Have you updated yours to the latest version so you no longer need a cadence magnet? If so does it work just as well?
I have not done that update yet no...

Typical. Felt like I was starting to get into a good rhythm and then strange stomach cramps and sickness got me. I had done a 3.5 hour ride at nearly 280w which for me was quite decent and it didn't feel like I was on my knees either. Went out this evening and 90 mins at 265w felt like an effort frown

I've heard very few bad things about the new power 2 max. Whereas I've heard lots of bad things about vector and stages.
I've had the P2M on the road bike for a good few months now. Hasn't missed a beat and the new version is much neater than the previous one with the lump of dairylea on the side wink

The only issues I had with my P2M is that I had it auto zero on me a few times during a race when there was obviously a torque reading so got some garbage (super low) for a little period until it auto zero'd again.

I went out for what was supposed to be a Z2 ride this morning - with the stages as I'm now on the winter bike again. It felt like I could only get power down to Z2 by basically not pushing the pedals. Any kind of normal riding (judged by feel) was well up into tempo. I also matched my 4 min max power for this year going up a short climb. Allegedly.

Didn't feel right at all, going to take it out with my powertap wheels tomorrow, 2 garmins, and do a side by side.

Will report back!

P.S. That said, when I was on holiday recently my powertap started telling me that I was putting out 1600w when I was just cruising along the flat. Although that was properly broken and has now had bits replaced.

I was doing a zone 2 ride today using HR and any incline had me up into z4! biggrin

Haven't seen that with mine. Besides, using a power meter during a race is futile.

Why do you think that?

Well in road races/crits I can't see the point. You have to go with the breaks and looking at the PM can tell you things you already know but don't need to see. TT's, yes, PM, all day long. But am I going to look at a PM when there is a push off the front and I am into the red already? Sometimes you can do things beyond the norm, having actual data IMO can plant a seed of doubt. I like the data, but afterwards. But I'm st, so don't listen to me smile

I think you're right to a degree - you can only go as fast as you think you can go, and having the raw data in front of you may stop you from pushing further. But there are still times when it's useful. Say you're in a break with a bit of a gap, and you're finding that doing turns is putting you fully anaerobic? You might not realise that you're doing something completely unsustainable in all the excitement until you blow up. If you've got the numbers you can try and get people to calm it down a bit. Maybe. I'm pretty st too :P

smile

I must try that.."Lads, let's back it off a touch"

I guess when you are at a higher level you know absolutely what you can take, every anaerobic effort is probably a well know metric. Must be really boring biggrin

Its HUGELY useful post race. Massive.

I couldn't care less about it during, unless in break, but after you can break your race down to the nth degree.

When Froome is climbing and staring at the "stem" he's really looking at his wattage!

Well that's what I always thought.

Yeh probably, its quite different if you're going up alpinbe climbs though, in races I do I think the biggest climb I've done was in Ireland and about 14 minutes, I rode it at the pace I needed to in order to stay with the front group.

Cavendish did an article recently moaning about PM. He said something like the climbs aren't really an all out battle anymore as everyone just rides to their wattages, it's like an uphill TT.
