I have ordered quite a bit from HK including camera lenses and have never been hit for import tax. Last month I bought a GoPro from the States and ended up paying another £50 to customs for import duty before DHL would deliver it, still saved over £100 on buying it in the UK.....!

Sorry to thread hi-jack but what site did you get it from? Struggling to find a go-pro from the states that can be delivered to the uk.

Also liking the look of those cree lights! Two would probably do the trick, and its hardly going to break the bank at £17 a pop.

Just ordered a front light as per Watchmans suggestion. worth a try at that price point!

Any recommendations for a really bright rear light?

I currently use the Cateye TL-LD1100 out back, but still get a bit nervous about traffic as I mainly use very dark country lanes on my rides.

Purchased off this guy and arrived in good time.

To anyone who has the Hong Kong sourced lights; am I right in thinking that they only come with a US plug and one of those holiday type US to UK inverters is all I'd need to buy additionally?

I've been mulling them over this week, because my current set up has been fine for me vision wise, but I had another near miss last night which has made me consider something even beefier up front.

Me (lit up like a Christmas tree) verses a leaf peeper tourist driving city-pimped rangie down a small dales road at dusk results in me and the bike deep in a hedge.

Some of them are listed as having voltage sensing chargers for 100-240V.

Well, I've just ordered one of these;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bike-Bicycle-HeadLight-C...

Which my colleague seems to think I can buy one of these;
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=2...

And all will be well - can anyone confirm or deny this?
I feel like I'm totally playing the "I'm a girl and know nothing about electrickery..." card here!

I presume a lot of copies are kicking about on the internet but would it be worth investing the Magicshine - http://www.dealextreme.com/p/ha-iii-ssc-p7-c-sxo-3... over the non branded ones that are £20-£30 cheaper?

Edited by Matt106 on Tuesday 18th September 13:56
Not IMO. If the unbranded one has the same cells and emmitter then there wont be enough difference to justify the price difference imo.

You may well find it comes with a suitable adapter. The key thing is to check the voltage. It will say if it can run on 240v, which is what we have in the UK. If that's the case then you just need an adapter to make it fit physically. The one you linked to will only work with a cord, but it's likely that your item will end with a transformer brick thing, in which case you'll need something like this instead:

But like I said, it's likely to come with one.

Thank you!
The listing implies that it's suitable for uk voltage, so now its a case of wait and see what arrives!

/End I am actually a girl mode.

Try a Moon Shield (60 lumen). Shop around and you should find one for about £30. (Merlin cycles currently have them for £35).

P.S. If you don't like the extra wires/ battery pack/ weight of the Magicshine, etc. try a Moon X-Power 300 or 500. Very compact, lightweight and rechargeable. The output is excellent for such a small light and it's really all you need for riding on the road, if a bit pricey compared to the Chinese Magicshines.

I purchased a light from the ebay seller linked by tjdixon911, on friday, they arrived today. Just had a quick play and the lamp does seem very well made and seems a heck of a lot brighter than my niterider trinewt, as it should be at over twice the quoted lumen output. I'll hopefully do a comparison in the dark tonight.

One thing tho, the light doesn't come with any instructions so does anyone know the appoximate charge time?

Don't be fooled by the fact that it isn't branded. It's the real deal (I've got two).

I just ordered another for a helmet light. WTF eh? I don't ride on roads so I'm going for that alien spacecraft effect behind the trees. wink
