Currently run an Orange 224 for DH which is excellent but looking into doing a bit of XC.

Does anyone ride the Five? I've had the Yeti 575 & fancy something different.

I do and quite a few other PHers do.

An awesome bike, does the cross-country stuff really well, I absolutely love mine.
I recommend upgrading to some longer bars & obviously better pedals, other than that they do the job straight out of the box.

Plus it's a British bike to accompany the TVR, for Queen and country!

Here's mine in some snow.

Shameless plug of mine!

I am an absolute 5 fan boi, I've never enjoyed riding as much as I do now I have a 5. Yeah sure they're not the most up to date design and yeah maybe they're over priced but my god the smiles I get from riding it are worth every penny.

I never thought I could ride as fast as I do now, it fits like a glove and just works.

Would follow coco's sentiment ref wider bars and I'd not even registered it came with pedals so already had ordered new ones before it arrived.

They're innocent. getmecoat

Very capable bike. Loads of people do all sorts on them. If I wasn't smitten with my Nicolai Helius AM I'd have one, in an instant.

Cheers folks, they do look a nice bit of kit! Whenever I call Orange for bits for the 224, they can't do enough.

Do any of you run 160mm forks?

Yep, Fox Talas 120-160, but not on a 5 obviously.

TBH, compared to my 'bargain' RockShox RC2 forks on the DH rig, they never feel 'right', especially on jumps. Might just be me. FWIW the forks have been serviced since I had them at TF Tuned and it made little difference to feel.

IF you ride hard, I think maybe coil is the way...

Another happy owner here, although I haven't ridden another full suspension bike to compare. Wouls happily get another if anything happened to mine!

Mine's a virtual twin of Coco's:

Ha sounds familiar to me. I also have a 224 Evo for Downhill. Amazing bike and wanted a xc bike so went for a Five. Turns out to be another amazing bike!

Run it with the same wide bars and flat pedalds as on the 224 and 9 speed. Have 150mm forks on at the moment and works great. Feels very similar to the 224 and behaves the same way.

It seems that British sports cars & Orange fives make great company, we have a couple of TVRs, a Lotus and a Westfield in this thread already!

Update!
And a Noble! Incredible!

am i the only one who thinks they are over priced and out dated?
Much better xc machines, much lighter, better spec'd etc etc.
i know they are a british company (not made here) but surely if you want a good XC machine look at good pedaling bike, one that doesnt bob for apples?

All the full sus Oranges are hand built in Halifax, it's only the hardtails that aren't. I'm sure that you will get positives and negatives for all makes of bikes, just with the 5 the positives outweighed the negatives! I don't think I'm a good enough rider to notice the difference of a 'better' bike anywaybiggrin Oh, can't say I've ever noticed excessive bob either.

As I mentioned in my post, yes it's not the most up to date design, yes it's expensive but my god does it ride well, quite frankly does one really need a fancy linkage system if the bike rides as well if not better than those with fancy linkages and carbon frames? The 5 is built in the UK.

As for these new budget German brands coming through, been there done that got the tshirt with a Ghost, yeah the spec was great and really eye catching but everytime I came off it something broke, when I come off the Orange only I break!

But more importantly above all else, they do the 5 in Neon Pink!!!

5s are a lot of fun to ride, and that's what it's all about really. Also they don't bob if you pedal properly rather than pedal squares.

I personally love the look of them and the way they ride, I went for a Giant Anthem in the end purely as I do the odd race, once I've got that out of my system I'll be purchasing one.

I was born in Blackpool and live in Halifax, so I kind of feel obliged to do the honourable thing and drive a TVR and ride a 5. Shameless plug of the new respray.

Rides great. As has been said before, there are cheaper, more modern, better(?) bikes out there but this just does what I want it to.
