I've also been out on a disused railway line this eve...

Its part of the Mercian way cycle route, only did 7ish miles from home (Bridgnorth) to a pub at Coalport and came back...

First ride on the new toy, very very pleased, feels completely different to my old GT, absolutely over the moon with it.

Abandoned building right off the line...

Another Boardman mid way through a 36 mile ride with a quick stop of for a pint here. I managed a PB 18mph average too. I've put that down to the new jersey and arm warmers that were delivered from Planet X today.

I decided that as I live within a few miles of where le tour will be passing soon that I should ride some of the route. I opted against the DC from Silsden so picked the route up at Keighley, from there it's uphill, a lot!

First pic is Haworth, the Worth Valley railway yard.

I did go up the cobbles in Haworth but I couldn't be arsed to stop. There was to be a slight detour at Stanbury for roadworks, the dam is closed. It did mean that I got a better view of this though.

I'm not sure it comes out too well but on the far hill there's a massive painted on farmer with a dog... fields of vision or summat, there's a faceache page.

Next pic is at the top of Oxenhope. From here down to Hebden I can highly recommend putting a jacket on cos you get fecking cold! Go steady through Pecket Well and as you leave look out for the first left hand bend, it's quite tight, wouldn't be surprised if there was a crash there on the tour.

Then the bit I was looking forward too! Cragg Vale. Oh, and the bike I'm on biggrin

and at the top, 34 minutes later

I really enjoyed the climb, not as hard as I expected, quite the opposite really, it rewards you as you try harder. That said, I'm 2000 and some out of 2700ish, oddly I jump a few hundred places for the 'sprint finish' segment!

From there I went to Littleborough, Tod' and then Burnley where I got on the canal to Colne

60 miles, 4000ft of climbing in under six hours smile

Meant to post these on Sunday. Taken on top of Bennachie, Aberdeenshire. It was a bit misty to begin with but the sun soon burned through and left us above the clouds for a while.

A quick, short (distance) ride that ended up taking 3hrs around East Dartmoor:

Going down, nice and easy:

Going up, less so:

Nice enough day on the tops:

Taking photos = good excuse for a rest....... ;-)

Got home from work last night and weather was glorious.

Lawn mowed - CHECK
Dogs walked - CHECK

Then snuck out for a quick half hour blast, no pack, short sleeves, down some (very) local, sneaky steeps. Was a beautiful evening, and because it's been still for days, the scent from the tree blossom was really strong and focused around the trees. Heaven.

My first adddition to this thread.

Finally got back on my bike last week after a year off. Need to get training for ride London.

Taken just next to Marsh lock outside Henley on Thames. It's funny, whilst I haven't been cycling I had actually forgotten how stunning this country can be.

Yeah you can take some of the vistas this country offers for granted sometimes, a ride out on the bike usually solves that! Little pit-stop in Beaulieu on a pre-brekkie loop this morning

'Commute' on Tuesday evening. Ok, so 4 out of my 18 mile commute (x2) was done on the bike.

Then yesterday I had the day off, so went a bit further up route 45 to Ironbridge.

Got to the cooling towers of the power station and headed home, 25 odd miles and great weather again, better than today anyway.

Bovine ambivalence

The bike is superb to ride on these unsealed paths, even on 23s its comfy and they provide much more of an interesting ride compared to pot hole ridden roads. Its a shame I cant find more of them locally.

I shall be out exploring the Czech countryside for the next couple of weeks, so hopefully will find some interesting stuff to take pics of.

Once I put the bike back together, assuming it has survived the trip unscathed.

We'll see in the morning.
