After the problems with my bike mentioned on the previous page, I had a very nice 19 mile ride around Sidmouth today. This is the view looking over towards Newton Poppleford.

No in fact. I've had it longer than the whippet. I generally use it for commuting which is quite dull, so all the pretty pictures I post here are of the other one. I wanted a ride on Sunday, but couldn't face the downs in this heat, so pootled around the coast for the sea breeze really.

A brief stop whilst one of our team fixed a puncture. First team training ride (ride is from Edinburgh to London) last Friday in 30+ deg temps. Looking towards Whipsnade zoo.

A most pleasant 45 mins slow trundle into the sunset tonight, on a 9 mile figure of 8 round my local back lanes by Oulton Park. Not a soul to be seen, except the occasional snorting horse and soaring sparrowhawk. I love the countryside biggrin

Not really much to do with bike riding, but...

...I came within a whisker of squashing this little Toad tonight. Around 2200hrs, it was pretty much dark, and I was riding with my lights off. Riding on a gravel forest road, I caught a movement from the corner of my eye, and stopped, fully expecting the little chap to be dead/dying, but somehow I'd avoided running him over. He was only about the size of my thumb too.

A bit of a mix today, and I was out earlier in the day than usual, in decent light too, so managed to take some 'share-able' pics...

Open (former) farmland - Minley

Bloody cows!!! I waited to see if they'd move. They didn't...

...so I went around them, avoiding the fresher 'pats'.

But what's this? No sooner am I back on the track, than the contrary beggars decide to move out of the way anyway rolleyes

Onward, to Fleet Pond. A slow ride around the pond, too many people about to smash any Strava segments, and far too hot for that silliness anyway.

Up to the canal, and as I rode along, I had a chat with the couple who live on this boat. Registered in Stoke-on-Trent, they were on the second day of their return trip to Birmingham. The trip down took them 3 months!!!

Even the wildlife was too hot to fly away. Normally the local Herons will take flight when disturbed.

Canal aqueduct over the A331 Blackwater Valley relief road.

A varied 25 miler, at a rather sedate 9mph average speed. It was too hot to get silly, so I settled in and enjoyed the scenery.
