I am calm - sorry! Was just posting in a hurry... (still think strava has gone mad!)

I rode up an alp the other day in Chamonix straight up, no down and it was 6 miles with 2,200ft of climbing pretty much on the granny gear the whole way.
Off-topic but which col? I'm on my way there now with the bike in the back, hoping to squeeze in a ride up the Forclaz. The weather does not look promising though.
The one I did was really through St Gervais which is close-ish to Chamonix (about 15 mins down the road).
I started in Passy and climbed through St Gervais and then up to Bettex which is on the back-side of the Megeve ski area.

I was pretty chuffed with a top 10 in the Bettex half but then it turned out only 20 people had ever done it. frown

No custard as sat by the pool on my iphone, however here is a Strava screen shot. Didn't bring the garmin so used the iPhone app. Blame Strava if it's incorrect! smile
Go into the ride - there are 4 main segments that cover the climbs.
1st hill - 1,194ft.
flat bit afterwards - 988ft.
next flat bit with a little bit of hill 2 - 890ft.
the 2nd hill - 1,043ft.

You are missing about 20,000ft!

Think about it - there are two big hills here both top out at 1,600ft.
Did you really climb BOTH of them 7-8 times!!
I was thinking a similar thing when I saw 24,844ft (7,572m) in just 60 miles (97km). I think whatever gadget JEA1K is using might be a bit optimistic!

Compare a ride I did last month from Arica at sea level to the to the Chilean / Bolivian border, 182km & 4,680m gain in elevation which was almost all climbing with very little descending....

....to JEA1K's ride from sea level to sea level, topping out at 512m which he did twice.

Ok so there are lots of spikes representing short sharp climbs but 7,500m of climbing in a 100km ride of which half would be descending so 7,500m in 50km? Come on!

It looks like there is a fair amount of coastline there: I find that Strava dramatically overestimates elevation around coasts, so I suspect there is a large error there.

Nice old Merc down at Beaulieu this morn

They do have some lovely classics for sale in that garage. I still regret letting the wife talk me out of a Sunbeam Alpine (light blue) in there, many years ago. We ended up with a 'sensible' Cavalier instead eek

(In my defence, it was BPH - Before PistonHeads - so I probably wouldn't let it happen again wink )

15% average for 50km, averaging 21.8km/h. That would be quite something.

36 Miles and 4000ft of climbing, not so much as a top 10 on any segment but my missus has a cabinet full of QOM's.
Haha - love it when that happens! I bumped into a girl who occasionally rides with my group a few weeks ago when she was on a 'recovery ride', she tucked in behind me and followed me the 7 or so miles back to my village and picked up a dozen or so top 10's and 3 or 4 QOM's! I didn't even get a bj.....!

And that Amalfi ride shows why any Strava climbing challenges are bks.

The elevation data equates to a 60m continuous 8% climb.

Yeah but fk it, it's a ride down the Amalfi coast. I'd take that any day of the week. Pretty sweet even if the numbers are out.

Precisely! It's a stunning coastline ... if anyone gets the chance to ride it, JFDI. Roads are v narrow but drivers are more respectful to bikes which us hard to believe when you see the general standard of driving.

Not quite 24k ft of climbing but a nice shot at the top of Hawkesbury after the climb to the monument.

What a lovely day, had a nice spin with the slower group from my club down to Pevensey.
Jake had his first go on a roadie and loved it.

Bumped into Richardxjr at the coffee stop, nice to put a face to a name smile

The Liverpool Sky Ride was on this morning, using most of the first stage of the Tour of Britain. Did half a dozen laps then had a few coffees and hung around to watch the race. Managed to get to within 100m of the finish line but was a bit crowded to get the bike down any further. Stage 2 sets off from just down the road in Knowsley tomorrow.
(Apologies for the terrible pictures, any artistic merit I had was lost years ago.)

Second ride out on my new road bike. This across Chester to Mickle Trafford to try out a new coffee stop. Nice break in the sun before heading back over the border into Wales.

35 miles in 2hrs 10mins

Taking advantage of the dry terrain while I can so out on the Mountain bike. Rather than the New Forest I decided to head the direction I often take the roadie but off road as much as possible.

Quite a bit of this

Some of this

and this

Ox Drove, fortunately not too much of this, no idea how deep didn't want to find out!

Some fun trails in these woods

View from the top in Martin Nature Reserve while waiting for some horse riders to pass

Fun route with a bit of everything, hampered a little by riding head on with a horse riding event for some of it. Won't be rideable for long into wetter months due to the dirt bridleways.

I decided to tackle my three local "challenge" hills in one ride. With the Tour of Britain coming to town on Wednesday, I also thought I'd give them a target to aim for... I mean, I expect they'll edge me out, but I'm still hoping to beat Cavendish wink

This is the view that they (won't) see, at the top of the main climb on Leckhampton Hill. I really am a lucky bugger, living where I do.

I was 9th on the Parliament Hill Strava segment, the KOM stage on yesterdays race. I say was, I am now 21st (last time I checked) after the pro's uploaded their rides after the race laugh

My parents live down the bottom of Leckhampton Hill, great hill to ride...down! Assuming you did Cleeve and as well then?

No I missed out Cleeve actually. I was thinking about doing it as I felt fairly fresh at the top of the third climb, but then I hit a massive hole at the top of Aggs Hill and punctured. As my pump was sitting, usefully, on my desk in London, that sort of ended my ride. I had to walk down Aggs Hill in my socks!

I did Birdlip Hill (PB by a minute!), Leckhampton Hill and Ham Hill.

As you say, it turns out Leckhampton is quite a lot more fun in the other direction!
