Popped across the border into Switzerland and back, via the Col des Montets in Chamonix. Had hoped to finish the Col de la Forclaz too but ran out of time half way up.

Also, if anybody is in the wine country of northern California I can strongly recommend renting a bike from Uber Bike in Sebastopol. Very good bikes and exceptional service from start to finish.
I second that, I rented bikes here for me & Mrs C, they were superb.

Mine too, hence why once we had finished we went very sweaty into a cave and bought 18 bottles smile

The Tour of Britain passed within 3 miles of my home today, so a quick spin out at lunchtime captured these.....

Steyning Bostal is a long slog from the A27, I have only climbed it a couple of times and have never had a clear run at the descent the other side - always got stuck behind a car or met traffic coming up the hill.

Doing it in reverse from Stenying is a stinger but at least you have a nice long downhill to the 27!!

I've done it half a dozen times on my hybrid and once on my road bike which was a lot easier! I've always been lucky and had a clear run. I have not done it from Steyning to A27 but I plan to do A27 to Steyning and then back over from Steyning to A27, should be fun yes

I don't get to ride down there too often, my in-laws live in Ferring so when we visit I usually ride down from the Thames Valley on the Friday evening, then West one day, and East the next! There are some fantastic places to ride and some great climbs off the main roads.

biggrin Funny enough that is what the sign on the bottom left of the picture says!!

You can ride past the top of it though which is part of the 1948 Olympic road race circuit; http://www.strava.com/segments/1952373

If you know the area take a look at this video clip (from 1 minute in onwards) and see how much of the route you recognise!; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPkCQU8qKqo

Great moment at 2:25 where OKGO and Dizzee come together!!! smile

You can see footage of the race here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBv0yixAGdY

Skip to 5m in to see Prince Philip with the starter pistol. And then to 6:20 to see a great argument after a fall. I love the official cars they use. No Skodas back then, Rolls Royce thankyouverymuch.

You can see from the video that the park/circuit has barely changed. I love it in WGP, especially in the Autumn as the leaves are turning.

A little while back my mate and I stopped at the bottom of the Great Walk for a breather... then realised how much fun we could have, photobombing all of the tourist coaches that went past.

Many Japanese people now think that The Castle has some very, very strange residents.
