Bit murky and misty out there today eh? I decided on a little off road jaunt in the New Forest. Was really fun until my foot slipped off the pedals mid-air over a jump. Got a nice pedal shaped gash in my shin now. Still, views were nice!
Shin gashes are a mark of honour. You must pick the scab endlessly so it leaves a permanent scar.Craivold said:

I cut my right shin today. Combination of stupid (original fit) cheap pedals, getting caught out seated instead of stood up, and some properly stupid little 'switchback' type 'yumps' on the Red Trail at Swinley. These a-hole little bumps have been placed randomly about the place, and are so out of place when compared with the rest of the trail around them. Probably great for full-sus carbon niners, but bloody uncomfortable on a 6 year old 'bottom of the range' 26 inch hardtail with very little suspension travel to speak of. I suppose better pedals might be a good start?BOBTEE said:
You've more suspension in your arms and legs than even the bigger DH rigs! Get out of the saddle, assume an attack position with your elbows and knees bent and then just soak the trail up
Yup, exactly what I've told others in the past (we've all got 4 point fully independent 'suspension' built in ) but this was just odd jumps, built onto otherwise flat sections of not particularly 'techy' terrain. The proper jumps/tables/berms sections I've no argument with, but random features totally disconnected with the 'flavour' of the trail at a particular point? Silly, IMHO, and too much potential for a spill if you're not expecting them, as I wasn't (they're on a new section, where water pipe works are forcing a diversion of the main trail). The main complaint re: the 26" unfriendliness of the trail was more to do with the surface, and some bad braking pots on the 'good' lines, to be fair. Being honest, I'd not have gotten caught out by those small jumps if I'd been concentrating more.

Just outside Tamworth. It's by the cycle paths that cris-cross the A5. I ride passed it every so often when I get the wrong train!
On an evening its usually swarming with kids so I couldn't resist a lap on the way into work.

Pedal strike from a couple of years ago with NC-17 pedals......took months to heal and left me with a set of scars than can be seen from space!!! (also sustained in Swinley but in the days before it became a trail center).Gassing Station | Pedal Powered | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
