Some photos from yesterday's 70 mile round trip to take the bike in for it's complimentary 'check & adjust' service...
Sign outside the 'Calleva' pub in (Roman) Silchester.
Amazing views westward over north Hampshire on the way home.
The road those views were from, perhaps not quite so 'amazing', although almost traffic free and very peaceful.
Another view across the same terrain, but from further up the hill.
There really is a light at the end of the tunnel after all!
Hmmmmm! Next time I create a road bike route on Strava, I'll be careful to take a closer look at it on Google Streetview...
Mid-segment break to chomp down a cereal bar (I missed lunch completely) and take a snap of my road bike at the top...
Before gearing up for the descent down the other side. On balance, maybe not ideal for a carbon roadie on 23c slicks
Those last three pictures are from this segment... https://www.strava.com/segments/2483074 ...and my 'moving time' of 9'03" would have been enough for 11th place on the leaderboard, despite the mismatch between my bike and the terrain.

You are clocking up some serious miles now!Sign outside the 'Calleva' pub in (Roman) Silchester.

I am, yes. I've really found my 'Mojo' again, and the new bike helps, as it's never a chore to ride it. And riding a 70 mile day just to get someone to look over my bike helps to rack up the mileage, especially when it's "only" a 42 mile round trip to go direct. Worth it, though. So, so worth it. Yesterday's ride was more than 50% 'virgin territory' for me, and stunning scenery. I'm certainly looking to head out that way again soon!I needn't have done that trip at all yesterday, as I've got a torque wrench and can twiddle a barrel adjuster myself, but hey? It was free, they have coffee, and it was a brilliant excuse to get away from the house for most of the day.

That's HOTN terrain that is. The Trek it is then
It might well be! It certainly felt more capable on the off-road bits than the Falcon ever does. Less fear of bits falling off, too. I'm even considering having another crack at Hussey's Lane, at pace this time, to give those lazy MTBers the jolt they evidently need. 30th/35 including time off the bike for a snack and pictures half way... Top ten is the target, I think
From the bank holiday. I ride the fixed gear every day to work but have always been wary of longer rides - more from fear of descents than climbs (you can grind up pretty much anything, I find, but once your legs start spinning too fast you're f%$@ed ). Fancied a challenge though so I rode to the tip of Gower (Worm's Head) and the top of Gower (Cefn Bryn). 63km in total and it was an absolute blast - couple of hairy moments but loved it.
Cefn Bryn (see how I've -ahem- cleverly made it look like a horse is on my handlebars...)

Shakedown ride of the £600 London Road what I built. South Downs into Friston forest, to the pub.
Stem angle needs sorting Apart from that it is awesome.

Love it. That's exactly the kind of thing I need. A burly, road-ish thing on skinny but knobbly tyres with decent hydraulic brakes.Stem angle needs sorting Apart from that it is awesome.

Road BB7 cable discs on my budget, (secondhand £48). Seem good enough though
Fair enough. I don't think I could go back to cables and I've got enough sets of brakes in my shed that I could get a decent pair out of them.Have you got a spec list? Did you buy everything separately?
You'll struggle with STis and hydros of course unless £££! Could go flat bar of course.

I nipped out "for a couple of hours on the bike" yesterday afternoon. 85 miles and more than 6 hours later I was back home, having completed a little over 6 laps of this...
I'd prepared a route for my Garmin, but in the end it wasn't really necessary, as the lap is pretty straightforward... https://www.strava.com/routes/2356347
Here's some video of the 1948 race... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPkCQU8qKqo (Check out the official course car!!!)
