I nipped out "for a couple of hours on the bike" yesterday afternoon. 85 miles and more than 6 hours later I was back home, having completed a little over 6 laps of this...
I'd prepared a route for my Garmin, but in the end it wasn't really necessary, as the lap is pretty straightforward... https://www.strava.com/routes/2356347
Here's some video of the 1948 race... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPkCQU8qKqo (Check out the official course car!!!)
The video is fantastic it's like every classic old movie I've ever seen, and fisty cuffs old chap I'd prepared a route for my Garmin, but in the end it wasn't really necessary, as the lap is pretty straightforward... https://www.strava.com/routes/2356347

The photo doesn't really do it justice, but I found a dirt jump area alongside a bridleway I usually ride on:

Unfortunately there isn't a route out at the bottom, so it is difficult to incorporate into a ride and I am way too old/uncool/rubbish to properly session the jumps. There's another trail around the side that is pretty cool though, a few drop offs and some steps to go down.
I also managed to fall off a bridge into a stream (backing up my uncool/rubbish comment), fortunately there was no one there to take a photo of that though.

No photo's of your ride YJ?
I'll take that as permission to publish! Me, and all of my many chins, in the latest PH jersey, with Windsor Castle in the background.
A certain MadDad, of this 'ere parish. We randomly passed one another riding through the deer park and stopped for a chat. Ruined my 'hot lap' KOM attempt, that did...
Huge pale fella, spotted riding a very rare 'Short Horned Unicorn' on the top of a hill. Coincidentally, it was very near the 'copper horse' statue of George III at the top of the Long Walk.
Simon's ride on Simons Walk. Awesome! Now I know there's at least one street named for me.
10 miles into my sunday morning club run &" bang" huge puncture & a 2" slit in my rear Gatorskin hardshell, i've done over 3k miles on this tyre so not too bad i guess , i have a mile or so walk into Epsom town centre where i know there is smallish bike shop ready to accept my hard earned, I have alway ridden 700x23's & always said my next tyres i buy will be to try the 25's ...i guess i have 3 options
Option 1 > Get train back closer to home or call SWMBO or son to come pick me up & miss out on a morning ride
Option 2 > get one over priced £39.99 tyye put it on myself ride home & switch tyre on my Winter commute bike which has 2 nearly new 23's on them & order a matching tyre with Wiggle at around the £25.00 mark.
Option 3 > get two overpriced Schwalbe Durano plus 25's tyres @ £79.98 as the shop does a deal where if he does two tyres he throws in two specialized inner tubes & fits them both for you & this way i'd not miss out on a wet morning ride & i can pick up the good front tyre one day in the week.when i pass by.
What would you have done ?
I'm such a sucker ! Wallet emptied but Box hill & Reigate hill conquered !

Nice ride today once I got off the main roads, where car drivers were trying to kill either me, other drivers or themselves with ridiculous overtakes! One guy in a Zafira basically brushed my handlebars and missed an on coming car by inches...

I gave my normal Saturday morning mixed club run a miss yesterday in favour of a 6am solo circuit of the local Harrogate hills. Without ever being more than 16 miles from home as the crow flies, I did 55 miles, six hills of note including a couple 20% + and a couple at 30% and 5500 feet.
Here are a few shots:
The view back over Harrogate from the top of Hartwith Bank out of Summerbridge:
The drop down into Wilsill (no idea why the picture is on its side)
False Teeth bridge at the bottom of the 1:3 Peat Lane
Top of Peat Lane looking back over Nidderdale:
The drop down into Skyreholme towards Bolton Abbey:
The view climbing Storiths out of Bolton Abbey:
Climbing Langbar. Lovely climb and good surface:
Over the top of Langbar for the fast sweeping descent to Ilkley:
Top of Askwith Moor looking back towards Ilkley:

Fame I wish I'd been wearing the new red trimmed shirt and matching shorts now, for the FPHKW look
Nice to see you Scoop. Maybe next time it'll be somewhere a bit less busy, with more scope to stop and chat!
