106.5 miles, > 6000ft climbing in 7h:03m, she did well.....sitting out of the wind behind me all night.
As a Father's Day treat we were cruising the Thames, eating a roast dinner, while you lot (or some of the red-shirted lot, at least) were cycling along the road beside the river. Quite a large gaggle, by the looks of it. Later, we saw some of the others, in the blue shirts, presumably heading home.We could see the Air Forces Memorial over the trees at the top of Coopers Hill, from our position down on Runnymede, but we didn't make the climb up, sticking instead to the Kennedy memorial and the Magna Carta memorial. Well done on the distance, and indeed the climbing. But that middle picture looks like the top of Box Hill, and I can't help thinking that that's a bit of a detour from the most direct Tidworth to Runnymede route?

Yes, route went Tidworth, Basingstoke, Guildford, Box Hill area for some fun and then back out to Windsor. Was it your boat that was blasting its horn, if so that was right next to me.We could see the Air Forces Memorial over the trees at the top of Coopers Hill, from our position down on Runnymede, but we didn't make the climb up, sticking instead to the Kennedy memorial and the Magna Carta memorial. Yup, Capra Pro "framed" by a Spicy Team. (neither of them are mine ;-)
Is it as awesome as I want to think it is?Having said that, yeah, the Capra is pretty dam good, and extremely extremely good in terms of bang-per-buck! The only downside is that they don't really have a big enough frame in their line up for over 6footers like me ;-(

The boat with the loud horn was probably the paddle steamer, the "Lucy Fisher"......a star in her own right, on film and TV, she was being rather free with the 'hooter' all day. We were on one of the larger, more modern boats, "The Lady Margaret Anne", which departed Runnymede at 1300hrs and headed up river to Windsor, returning for about 1600hrs. I don't recall our 'driver' being very keen to sound his horn at all.
How was the bit of the route between Tidworth and Basingstoke? Having lived for a while in Tidworth (off Kennet Road) I've a hankering for a trip back there, and it'd make a nice long day out on the bike. Do you have a Strava link you'd be happy to share?

Lumpy but nothing outrageous, lots of nice roads North of Whitchurch and Overton or South of Tidworth down the Test and Wyle Valleys. Cheers for that, Tuffer!https://www.strava.com/activities/330531181
It's pretty straightforward then. I was hoping it might be full of 'secret' little twizzly roads away from traffic. I'll probably use your route though, from Overton at least, if it's OK for cycling and not too mental with traffic. I'll alter the Overton/Oakley/Upton Grey section to go via Axford and North Waltham, which I already know from the opposite direction, and maybe add on some random exploring at the Tidworth end (if I ever get around to doing it ).
I'm not usually organised enough to do 'meet-ups', as I often do things very much 'spur of the moment', but I do appreciate the offer of a guide

I don't want to burst your bubble, but despite what all the marketing and adverts might have you think, it ain't about the bike ;-)

I haven't seen any adverts! The reviews seem very positive though and it's tremendous value. My poor old Spesh is getting on a bit now. Frame sizing not a problem for midgets like me!Having said that, yeah, the Capra is pretty dam good, and extremely extremely good in terms of bang-per-buck! I think I broke its back - then it broke mine.
My fastest ever 40 miles - and there was a big pop 5 miles from home. Thought I would keep pushing on to get home - and now laid out with a sore lower back. Its only when I got off to push it down the drive that I realised how bad it was as the bike was hard to move - worse than the power needed on a bad hill. Hence my back - duh !
New 27 inch wheel needed for the old beast - and nice new bike for reliability. Just trying to decide between Titanium or Carbon - Disc or Rim.
