Looks lovely - I miss Dartmoor.

Anyway, from my lazy bimble this morning, just took in the local views - tall buildings middle-right are in Sydney CBD...

Not today but a snap of me racing at the 'ArdRock Enduro, 25.3 miles 5092ft climbing! Im broken
Fark! The race I did last week took us up 5,500 feet in 35 miles and I was truly tired - so can appreciate the effort to squeeze in almost as much climbing in just 70% of the distance - top effort, that man!

Cheers dude, been out in the peaks today 16.1miles 3333ft of climbing. Rushup Edge and Jacobs Ladder (what a descent!) This was taken at the top of the first section of Jacobs Ladder. Absolutely perfect weather!

Somewhere in deepest Surrey in the middle of today's 63 mile ride with 5800ft of climbing, taking in most of the Surrey Hills. Legs are hurting now spin

Did a mini Paris - Roubaix today, well as much as I could on the single track roads around Merseyside. Several hours work on plotting a route on RideWithGPS were rewarded with views and roads like these.

...and it wouldn't be Paris Roubaix without some obligatory cobbles!

Liking the Paris Roubaix re-creation!

One from yesterday's meander through the Meon - at the top of Butser Hill - that thing was a tough climb in parts!

Nice Hampshire vineyard - felt like we were on the continent smile

Yeah Si, some lovely scenery and roads out that way. Really enjoyed it and made a nice change from the forest. Need to do more rides out that way I reckon.

Nothing wrong with a £50 Snotter, it's the joy of the ride that counts, enjoy it then enjoy seeing your bank account empty wink Some great locations by the way.

Abso-bloody-lutely. I've infinitely more respect for someone putting a bargain bike to good use than I have for someone with a top-end bike who can't ride.

yes

A young lad struck up a conversation with me just today. We were waiting for the level crossing barriers to lift at Bramley (which is akin to waiting for the next ice age). So there I am atop a £2300 bike with about £800 of kit between me and the bike. He's on an old purple 'Universal' mountain bike. I thought I'd get a mouthful of cheek, some ridicule, or challenged to a race as he looked a bit of a "likely lad". But no, he was full of questions about the cost, weight and comfort of the bike, and how far I was riding today. He was slightly incredulous as to the cost of the thing, and then wanted to know if I'd sell him one of my older bikes.

The thing is, for all my light weight carbon fibre and matching Lycra, I don't think I was having any more fun on my bike than he was on his. It's NOT all about the bike. It's all about the riding you do on it.

Cheers chaps.

I must say, I can't ride that well either! But I'm having plenty of fun learning the ropes blatting around on it, so much so I get home from a long day at work and go out for a couple of hours most days - and if it breaks then it's hardly a tragedy.

Did you take Harvesting Lane up Butser from East Meon? That's a decent climb. I've put a decent loop together starting and finishing at The Hampshire Bowman pub which takes in Beacon Hill, Old Winchester Hill, Butser Hill, Ditcham and Harting down. It's possible in less than 100k, so a good bit of punishment in not too many hours!

Yeah Harvesting Lane'd it. Read that that was the only way to climb it wink. We did Butser, Hyden Farm Lane and Beacon Hill in a 38 miler heading out from Fishers Pond, was a really nice route - https://www.strava.com/activities/370414312

Got a bigger one planned that takes in the 'Little Switzerland' climb out of Petersfield but that's near a 60 miler I think.

Little Switzerland is a piece of piss compared to Harvesting. It's never steep, like Butser. Nice climb though through the trees. I did it on a morning ride earlier in the year, bit more difficult to include it in a loop from home to take in the other favourites though.

https://www.strava.com/routes/2122975 (I did the ride but my phone papped itself and it never uploaded onto Strava... gutted!)

I rode the local South Downs loop over Christmas with a few mates from work, although it's fair to say there was a fair bit of waiting at the tops of the climbs for them!

Yeah fancied Little Switzerland for the scenery really - sounds like some good views as you ascend. Your routes look good - follow request on Strava has been slotted in.

I did sections of some hills (not Butser!) twice on the weekend- mate I was riding with hadn't been on a bike for 7 months, think it was a bit of a shock for him laugh
