Yet another one of Guildford cathedral - but this time the sun is shining on it.
Looking South from The Mount toward West Warren.
Up near The Mount I passed this lovely piece of modern design. There was a couple carrying building materials into it, so I asked if it was OK to take a picture. Initially suspicious, the chap challenged me. He feared I might have something to do with planning, or be a 'NIMBY neighbour'. He soon warmed when I told him how much I liked the design, and I was invited in to see the views from the rear balcony. Trouble with the neighbours not wanting 'modern' architecture among their twee mock-tudor 'mansions' means the build is behind schedule and it keeps being called back in by the planning officer, but I think it's great and wished them the best of luck before moving onward.
All that was missing was the sound of leather on willow. I'm sure that'll be there come the weekend.

When the going gets tough, the tough get a road bike! A cheeky public footpath shortcut to Newlands Corner.
I never did find the route up to St Martha's Church, but I think it was at the top of this hill.
Looking back along that there 'cheeky shortcut'. I wish there was a spirit level in my camera, because I don't think either of those 'shortcut' pictures are at the correct angle. I suspect they're steeper in real life than the perspective I've given them.
This sign definitely wasn't there last time I climbed Staple Lane. Hmmmmm? I think I may have a cunning plan.

Ooops! Last one for this post, I promise. Slight delay in getting home after a Dutch lorry driver decided to get stuck under a railway bridge. He managed to get through in the end, at a crawl and with a paramedic stopped to guide him along. Not sure if it was ever truly 'stuck' but it took an age to get through and out the other side, while drivers squabbled about who's turn it was to get past the obstruction from both directions...

If it rides anything like my old Peugeot it will be well worth the effort...steel is real and super smooth...albeit a tad on the heavy side Gassing Station | Pedal Powered | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
