This looks like a fabulous ride, I just looked it up. Was it as tough as it looks?

Had a lot of work to do Sunday/yesterday so only managed a little ride last night - enough to wiggle the limbs anyway!

In a word, yes. Thankfully the weather was perfect, and the scenery to die for, but some of the hills are pretty brutal. Glenshee is just constant, Gairnshiel has some 20% bits that are a killer, then right after that you have the Lecht!

Also finishing with 3 miles of solid climbing up Cairngorm is tough, but a good ride, very enjoyable

Really special ride for me yesterday biggrin

Only about 6 miles in the saddle but was the first time out riding with my little boy who is 13 months old. Got him a Weeride seat and helmet for his birthday and got out yesterday to do a loop round Cliffe pools in Kent up to the river Thames. Was a bit nervous about how he would take to it - the weather was a bit windy but he loved it smile

My Dad came out with us for the ride, was a fantastic feeling enjoying a ride with them both. Great moment when my little boy started waving to a family walking the other way and they all waved back, proper proud dad moment!

Pointing at a huge container ship on the river Thames:

Great stuff! Our firstborn is due in a few weeks, so I was working out how/when I can get them out on the bike with me. I'd not seen a seat like that, looks better than the rear mounted ones.

Really pleased with the seat actually, they get mixed reviews, most people like them but some people hate them, I think it helps if you're quite tall and have wide bars fitted. You get people that think they are dangerous but I don't see the issue myself. If you were totally risk averse you'd leave them tucked up in their cot all day, I'd much rather have him out in the fresh air pointing at ducks and laughing at the wind in his face.

Supposedly you can use them from about 9 months but I wanted to wait until he could walk well so I wasn't stuck having to carry him if we needed to dismount. They need decent core strength as the bike moves around quite a lot and if they couldn't hold themselves up they would just be flopping all over the place.

Have to alter your riding style slightly as it gets in the way of your knees a bit but I didn't find it a problem- it's not like you're going to be taking them on 100 milers or welsh trail centres! It's a choice between being able to see and talk to them and them being able to see where they are going, or having unimpeded knees and them being stuck looking at your arse.

I found it made suprizingly little difference to the handling of the bike which was impressive.

I was worried it wouldn't fit the frame as the Orange has the cables routed on top of the top tube and a fillet where it joins the head tube but the mounting bar is hollow underneath so there's more space than it looks.

Took me about half hour to fit but the seat itself can be removed with one thumbscrew and undoing the safety strap, leaving the mount on the bike. I have other bikes for "serious" riding though so wasn't fussed about that.

Perfect!

I'm taking the last two months of my wife's maternity leave as paternity leave, so being able to get out on my bike will be fun for both of us I'm sure!

Few pics from the Port to Port 2016 event I did last weekend in NSW, Australia. 4 day stage race over 200km of various terrain. Well worth entering if you happen to be over this way next May.

Truly great family cycling route. My family and friends have an annual camping week. We take bikes too. Two years ago we were in the area so we tried the Tarka Trail. The weather was equally fantastic.

My 6yo daughter rode 10 miles that day (crappy bike alert).

I find the splayed-legs pedalling absolutely ruinous for my knees. Great for local pottering though. Pay attention for the moment when they suddenly want to do the gears and steering.

Half term so away with the family, plenty of steam trains, county walks etc. This time I did manage to sneak my road bike in the boot on top of the luggage so I've been able to do a few short rides in the morning before everyone else is properly up.
It's a sad holiday in a way because my parents are selling the Snowdonia holiday home I've been visiting in the half terms since I was a toddler, its been in our family since 1923.
It has been good to capture some of the views I love. The below pics are from this morning's 20 mile circuit taking in Conwy and the Sychnant Pass.

A few from today's trip down to Eastbourne Cycling festival

Jr. Looking good before the off

Warm up laps for the Penny Farthing Race, 30 mins +1 lap on quite a tight crit course made for some good racing.
Lady on left first in the Women's, Guy to her right one a tense 4 up in the last lap.

No.4 Aero Matters

Some took it more seriously than others!

Something for everyone

Folding bike crit was fun, running start, put on tie, unfold and go for a 10 lap crit.

The world folding bike champ was in town, put everyone to the sword, lapped all but 4, rainbow stripes on the bike biggrin

Not feeling quite so fresh now are we sunshine!
