From the Torino-Nice Rally.

Top photo is the descent into Italy from Col Agnel,
The middle four are from a couple of high altitude Strada Bianchi. Either from the Via del Sale, an old salt traders' route which runs east along the mountain ridgetop from Col Tende, or from the track that runs from Colle della Gardetta to Colle Valcavera.
The last, with the Frenchmen of our group asking locals for restaurant recommendations, is in La Brique. One of the many beautiful little villages we passed through.

The full route was 760km in total, with 20,000-28,000m climbing (depending on whether you go by your Garmin barometer or Strava basemap).

^ It's on again next year Tuffer, starts Sept 5th.

Fly out to Turin with bike in a plastic CTC bag, travel with that (850g though) or poste restante another one to yourself in Nice, fly back from Nice.

I can't recommend the 36hr marathon option of 20Euro sleeper train to Paris followed by a 200km headwind slog racing to catch the ferry at Dieppe.

I'll be going back next year, Tuffer. This year's website http://torino-nice.weebly.com/intro.html. We could start a TNR 2017 thread at some point if there's interest?

You should have paid the supplement for a couchette, Dickie! Flying's quicker, cheaper and easier, but it was interesting to try a different way and it was certainly nice not having to dismantle and pack up the bike. Might be academic for next year though as the sleeper train stops running for good soon, and the daytime TGVs on that line don't accept full-size bikes.

So, not strictly from today but I wasn't about to upload anything straight afterwards! A few mates and I cycled the length of Wales on Saturday. Left just before 5am in Bangor and finally rolled into Barry just before 1am having lost a man after 150 miles due to an unrecoverable knee issue. The weather was pretty much as bad as it could possibly have been for a ride like this. 40mph southerly winds through the day, and then torrential rain due at dusk. Since finishing, I can appreciate that the conditions added to the drama and will have made it more memorable! Only one mechanical, and that was a puncture in the first 10 miles. Epic day on the road!

Strava route: https://www.strava.com/activities/723808933/overvi...

I didn't take any photos after this, but you can probably imagine it by shutting your eyes whilst being stood in a cold shower!
