A most enjoyable trip to Crantock beach today on the fat bike. Good fun but the sea "breeze" made some of it hard going, those fat tyres don't half catch the wind. You can just about make out the lines of lighter coloured sand blowing over the beach towards the bike.

I really must get round to renting a fatbike and head into the desert, I just have to be home during a weekend.

By coincidence I cycled part of the Haute Route sportive in the Vallee Verte (around Habere Poche I think it was) about a month ago. It must have been the last day? Looked like a lot of fun!

'fun' is a word for it biggrin . It was a tough event, hugely rewarding once I'd finished, but nothing worth doing is easy as they say. the riding was about 50% of the whole event, you really do get a taste of what it must be like to ride a tour event.
most days were up at 5, eat, get stuff sorted and bags to reception. get to start by 6;45-7;15 then ride. At the finish you had to collect your day bag, eat, shower, massage if you wanted and then find your hotel.Pick up you case, find an evening meal, sleep and start over!
the scenery was simply stunning and we were blessed with great weather for the whole week. can't wait to do it again. It will probably be in 2018 though, other plans for next year. It's a race as well, full timing and ranking.

I cycled to work with a broomstick sticking out of my bag. It's for the school Halloween display and I forgot to take it yesterday when I had the car...

Still, it clearly amused some commuters and bemused others who asked why I was on the bike instead of flying! smile

You should have strapped it to the crossbar!

...or an "interesting" take on the broom wagon concept?

I will do on Monday because I've got another bigger one to bring in! Couldn't find a bungee cord this morning so I've grabbed a handful of cable ties to take home. Just need to see if I can borrow a cloak from somewhere to complete the look!!

For you South Downs Way types, this is from yesterday's ride home. Half way up the climb from Washington, at the bottom here is the car park and A24, and then up the other side towards Amberley. When I left work it was quite hot, and with a couple of climbs shorts and fingerless gloves were fine. About half an hour later the sun had gone and the temperature dropped about 5 degrees, so shorts and fingerless gloves were NOT fine!

Apply a light application of Rule #5 :-)

Devil's Dyke for sunrise on Sunday.

Had to get down and back up here for the pic before, greasy chalk and cleats, brilliant!

I had a decent ride out today, one of my longer local rides. About halfway round I stopped for an ice cream:

Then I rode past the hospital, where I'd spent most of June with my son, looking out over the fields I rode across this afternoon:

On the way back across town I had to turn back on myself to get through a gate and saw this rainbow:

I hadn't ridden most of this route since last year, and even though I've not been out as much as I liked I found it a lot easier, so must be doing something right!

At the start of the Calderdale Mountain Bike Marathon yesterday. My 2nd time on the bike, 42km, 1100m of ascent and some fun descents. Plenty of mud. One spill. No damage. Fun day!

We weren't quick though, we went round as a group of 6 including some who found it a bit of a struggle. But we finished not-last, that's probably the important thing.
